Good news, Borderlands fans! 2K has confirmed that Borderlands 3 is getting a free next-gen upgrade for Xbox One owners of the game, and that it will run at 4K resolution and 60 frames per-second on Xbox Series X.
The publisher announced the news in a tweet, also revealing that 3 and 4-player split-screen is coming to the title on next-gen, along with 2-player vertical split-screen for all Xbox versions.
As pointed out in the image above, 4K, 60FPS support for Borderlands 3 will be exclusive to the Xbox Series X and PS5 - no specifics have been provided for the Xbox Series S version at the time of writing.
It hasn't been revealed whether Borderlands 3 will support Microsoft's Smart Delivery program on Xbox Series S/X, but either way, your current-gen save file will reportedly carry over with no issues.
Looking forward to this? Excited for split-screen? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

Cross-Play is also confirmed for 2021!
Not sure if Cross-Save wil also be supported. (PlayStation/Xbox)
I really liked the first Borderlands. I haven’t had a chance to play the sequels yet though. Just more games for my ridiculous backlog.
This is really cool. Now you could play the entire series in 4 player co-op, start to finish.
Now I will play it.
Nice i'm glad i still have my sealed copy..
Great news. Frame rate is not that stable on One S.
I may wait to play the latest DLC now...
@Justifier Frame rate wasn't very stable on One X either. Hopefully this will be the definitive version of it as want to go back and play this.
Just finishing Borderlands 1 now, and own handsome collection and 3, so this is good timing ! Really need something to show off the XSX, so this and Witcher 3 patched should do the trick!
@Beermonkey @Justifier given how most current Gen games are getting optimized to 120fps next gen, the fact this is only sticking to 60fps says a lot about how intensive the game was on current Gen hardware.
@Tharsman
Yeah, but I would be very happy just solid 60 fps.
I can understand 60fps in borderlands but I can’t see how 4K would do much, fair enough with games that aim for realistic visuals but this is almost like comic book visuals.
