Microsoft has revealed that it's ended its Project xCloud preview testing on Apple iOS devices earlier than expected, with the preview continuing for Android users until September 11th.
In a statement to The Verge, the company explained that it was putting its focus on the service's Android release next month for now, but it intends for Project xCloud to reach all devices eventually:
“Our Project xCloud preview TestFlight period has ended on iOS and we are focused on delivering cloud gaming as part of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate to Android customers beginning September 15. It’s our ambition to scale cloud gaming through Xbox Game Pass available on all devices.”
Until now, the Project xCloud preview on iOS has been restricted to just Halo: The Master Chief Collection and a limited number of participants due to App Store policies, so it remains to be seen how quickly and effectively Microsoft will be able to make Project xCloud available for Apple users in the future.
How disappointed are you that Project xCloud is skipping iOS for now? Let us know in the comments.

Not happy to be fair. And that's with Apple, not Microsoft.
I really thought MS and Apple had a decent relationship, as far as tech companies go. Maybe Apple will meet MS halfway and work to get GamePass on its devices. Oh well, I'm sure iOS users will eventually be able to use GamePass.
Here's hoping xCloud will work out well for smartphone. The end of consumers settling with poor mobile games is nigh (barring exceptions, such as the excellent Super Mario Run or the sublime Sonic ports by Christian Whitehead (friend of pixels and "polys" alike).
Guess us Apple users have to annoy Apple enough until something changes.
Yeah I’m quite disappointed as I have iPads and iPhones in my household, we just prefer iOS to android. I swear by Samsung TVs but Project xCloud isn't going to be enough to make me go out and get a Samsung mobile or tablet. I prefer to do my gaming at home with headphones and massive tv. It’d be nice to play my games on long journeys or when on holiday or something but guess I’ll just have to hope it’ll come to iOS eventually.
@Grot there is another article where a game company who streams on IOS explained. Basically the game streaming app in particular has to own all licenses (so no third party) and then the game has to be able be purchased from the Apple store (so they get a 30% cut). It’s insane on convoluted the game streaming on Apple is. I believe Apple has pending lawsuit over it. If I sound annoyed by Apple by this; I am. Not anyone else though
Silly Apple, Games are for everyone.
@mousieone Well Steam Link is on there now so I assume at some point it will come as well. However, whenever I change my iPad, I will seriously consider going the Samsung route.
