One of the big takeaways from Microsoft's recent reveal of the Xbox Series X console is the power of ray tracing to enliven and enrich the games we play. Ray tracing is a hot topic in the world of video game tech right now, and allows developers to accurately simulate the effect of nature light within their games.
Eurogamer's Digital Foundry – which broke much of the latest news regarding the Series X – has been lucky enough to capture some footage directly from the Series X itself of the Minecraft DXR demo, and the results are pretty impressive.
Ray tracing is likely to be one of the key features of the next-generation console war, so it's pretty exciting that Microsoft appears to be leading the way in this field right now. Let us know if you're pumped about the power of ray tracing by posting a comment below.

I am excited.
I used GeForce Now to check out Quake RTX and path tracing is incredible! My Nvidia 1060 can also play Metro Exodus with ray tracing enabled (though I have to drop things down to 720p and High graphical settings to get an unsteady 30fps). It's all very beautiful when seen "natively" as opposed to a compressed YouTube video.
It certainly is a eye-opening improvement. DF have done a number of video's on Ray Tracing and what differences that makes in games like Metro Exodus, Wolfenstein and Battlefield. It will be interesting to see if Ray Tracing is used as part of the game play as you could see shadows and reflections of characters off screen as part of the experience in non-scripted situations...
@TheNewButler Its a possibility as Raytracing doesn't affect just what you can see on screen but what's in the environment - of course it will require Devs to utilise it for this purpose....
I still don't see what the big deal is. Looks pretty. Is that is?
