Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (October 17-18)

Are you getting a head start on the campaign in Modern Warfare 4?

Once again we've made it to the weekend! You should know the drill by now, but if not, this is the place to share your weekend gaming plans with your fellow Pure Xbox community pals.

This week has felt like one of the longest years in recent months. In other words, I'm tired and ready to crack on with some games. We've got Campaign Early Access for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 and, of course, the Free Play Days offerings to get stuck into.

So, let's get right into it - here's what we're playing on Xbox this weekend:

Craig Reid, Staff Writer

This weekend feels like the first in a while where I’m not scrambling to meet an embargo, and it feels good. My plan is to rot away playing Gears of War: E-Day, specifically in the Ranked Versus and Horde Siege queues. Somehow, I managed to place in Division A, ranking Onyx 1. Not bad for 100+ ping servers!

When the inevitable gnasher burnout kicks in, or I get a lil’bit tilted, I’m likely to gonna need to calm doon with Interstellar Man of the Year, Biddy Blas. I’ve only recently started Star Wars: Galactic Racer, and I totally get why so many people love it. The roguelite structure for races, upgrades, and tourneys is really cool.

If I fancy trying something new, though, I’m keen to give either Silver Pines or Planet Zoo 2 a go. They’re both right up my alley for different reasons, and I just love the idea of crafting my own Komodo Island zoo filled to the brim with Komodo dragons.

Happy gaming!

Star Wars: Galactic Racer is currently in first position when it comes to my Game of the Year list, so you better believe I'm still playing an absolute ton of that game at the moment! I'd also like to play more of Gears of War: E-Day over the weekend, and maybe spend a little bit more time with Samson - A Tyndalston Story as well.

Basically, I'm trying to get all of this stuff in before GTA 6 rolls around and dominates my entire life for at least a solid month, and there's not very long to go until that happens!

Have a great weekend, folks.

Talk with us about what you're playing this weekend down below!

Maybe Sea of Thieves, Hi-Fi Rush or Teslagrad.

And definitely something on Evercade, haven't decided yet on what to play next.

Happy weekend everyone!

Apart from the awesome Star Wars Galactic Racer which I'll be playing for a long time I finished Gears of War E-Day

The campaign is my favorite Gears campaign so far, I thought it was really good. Its always a bit difficult with the story and character development in a prequel as most people knows what happens next but I feel like maybe it was a bit too much focus on Mags and not Marcus and Dom. But still, apart from that is was really good imo.
I liked the mix between linear and semi-open gameplay as well, and I'm very impressed with how good the game looked and ran on the Series S.
I pretty recently played Reloaded on the Ps5 and had a look at the trophies, which have one thats pretty insane with 10k kills in pvp. And I dont like the versus mode in Gears, at all so I gave up on that. But I had a look at the achievements in E-Day and the Coalition have gone mad. Not only do they require 25k kills in versus they also require 50k kills in Horde Siege 😂 that's easily over 1000 plus hous playing those two modes. Good luck keeping your sanity going for those 😅

Anyway, have a great weekend!

I'm replaying Control on my Pro as I played it when it first came out and my memory is such that I barely remember it. I'm replaying it because I have Control: Resonant installed and ready to go, but apparently you will get more out of it if you have played the first game (which I have, but don't remember). Anyway, I am looking forward to getting stuck into the sequel next week.

I'll also be dabbling in some Siege in Gears of War: E-Day. It's not Horde, and it's not something I am particularly enjoying, but I am trying to find some fun in it. I spent 2000 hours playing Horde in Gears 5 and hit Re-Up 60 in the process, but I really cannot see me putting anywhere near that in Siege, which is deeply saddening because I wanted E-Day to sing in all the modes, but right now, it's just the Campaign that hits all the right notes...

After 110-hours I have finally reached Part 3 in Cai’s path in Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave. I can’t get enough of this game—it’s truly an astounding achievement. And with the recent news of DLC, and an additional four character routes, I can’t wait to play even more. This might be one of the rare games where I can play endlessly without getting tired of it.

I have also started RE4 Remake on the Switch 2. It plays flawlessly in handheld, and is the perfect game to play during spooky season.

We have the same assessment of E-Day, @mac_da_man. I too think it is the best Campaign of the lot, but that The Coalition misread the memo when it came to what the community wanted in that they were expecting a Brofest with some real man-love between Marcus and Dom, but what we got to witness was a great campaign but with the real focus being on Mags. To be clear, I really liked Mags, and Lucas for that matter, but The Coalition should have done more to propel Marcus and Dom to the fore. Indeed, I would argue that Marcus was even less noticeable than Marcus, aside for the occasional "let's go's" he was relegated to the background for much of the game. Such was the prominence of Mags, that I actually Googled whether she was senior in rank to Marcus!

The interesting thing is, apparently Mags had her role toned down after early game testing suggested that she was too prominent and so The Coalition have apparently cut a portion of her content, which really begs the question, what have they cut? How much more prominent was she originally intended to be, and why? Did the The Coalition really not understand what the community wanted with the return of Marcus and Dom.

To be fair, this is a game made by The Coalition, so it is up to them what game they make, but they are making it for a community that had certain expectations, so their thinking is kind of odd.

Still, the gameplay has never been better in my opinion...

Still on The Witcher 3 Remastered working my way through the Skellige island quests. I am still doing daily tasks in Dune Awakening but I think it might be time to take a break from that one.

I have a few games downloaded like Runescape Dragonwilds, Dragons Dogma 2 has new dlc content and Tainted Grail The Fall of Avalon has had a bunch of free content including a pugulist / unarmed skill update. (Still waiting on dlc content for The Outer Worlds 2 🤨)

So I might dive into one of those at some point over the weekend too.

@Fiendish-Beaver

Maybe they intend to do more sequels focusing on Mags, that would make sense but if not then they missed the mark. I really hope Xbox lets the Coalition keep making Gears games!
