Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (February 14-15)

Another weekend is upon us! It's been a busy few days for Xbox Game Pass this week with multiple AAA additions, and of course, our backlogs are already filled with all sorts that we should have already played by now...

With that in mind, here's what we're playing this weekend:

I know I'll probably not get around to putting enough time into Kingdom Come: Deliverance really, but I'd still like to try it now that it's been added to Xbox Game Pass. Fans of this series seem super into it, and I don't know, maybe I need to swap my life for that of a medieval worker this weekend?

I've also been told I need to try Despelote — the indie footie game that's about much more than the beautiful game itself — so I picked that one up on Switch 2 while it had a recent launch discount here in the UK. Playing this is probably a more realistic goal with life often getting in the way of my gaming time these days!

You do need to try Despelote, Ben — it's one of my favourite games of 2025! As for me, I'll probably spend most of my time with High on Life 2 and Fable this weekend, and I'm also trying to finish off the last bits in Rhythm Doctor.

There's always something threatening to take my attention away though, and this week it's Planet Coaster 2 — I just discovered that it's an Xbox Play Anywhere title, and it's down to £19.99 in the Xbox Lunar New Year Sale. I'm very enticed by the idea of getting a free PC version that I can play via my docked ROG Xbox Ally X!

I'll be continuing my Code Vein 2 run, which I am very much enjoying. Loving the exploration, and am finding the combat fun though I rarely seem to get my parries off, although that is normal for me as it's never been my strong point.

I'll also be doing another two afternoons of Horde runs on Master difficulty as a team of 3 in Gears 5. We've now managed to complete 16 of the 37 maps as just a trio on the hardest difficulty, which is meant for a team of 5, so pretty proud of our achievement. Some maps will be impossible to do, and we are starting to run out of manageable maps, but hopefully we can knock a few more out before we move on to E-Day. Also hoping that I can get to Re-Up 60 before then too, as I am currently on Re-Up 56, and it takes something like 3 weeks for each re-up...

I've finished and platinumed Fallout 4 since last week, and I've enjoyed it more than I expected. Part of that is that it finally runs good with 60 fps and no lag or super long loading times, it was pretty bad on og ps4 when the save files got big. I also played the Far Harbour DLC, which was very good. Last time around I had to give up due to the suffering it put my poor ps4 through. Now I'm really hoping the next Fallout game focuses more on the story and side missions and exploration, which are the strong points of the game imo. Also hoping we'll get the remasters of Fallout 3 and NV sooner rather than later so I can get lost in the Wasteland again 🙂

High on Life 2 - We've resubbed to Game Pass Ultimate as me and my son both wanted to play this and he also wants to play Star Wars Outlaws and Avatar so I figured its worth a month or two of GPU. Anyway, the game seems pretty good avtually, I'm not far in but I've gotten the skateboard which makes gameplay more fun, the art style is great and the humor is more of the same which is also good (although very dependant on your kind of humor). The performance on the Series S isnt the best though, its not a stable 60 fps but close, but the image is very blurry and glitchy etc and its annoying. Still, the game is fun and the FPS is stable enough to make the game enjoyable so I'll stick with this version 🙂

Still grinding through Tainted Grail and still loving it.
When I get a chance I intend to finish Keeper, my wife finished it last week and was left really moved by it.

Finally joined the Yakuza bandwagon with Yakuza 0. In fact I played Yakuza 1 & 2 on PS2 back in the day but never since so it’s a fresh start. My overarching memory of those PS2 games was how dynamic the combat felt in the early 2000s, grabbing a guy and smashing his head into a wall, or picking up a sign and beating them down with it… it felt like you could do anything.

Jump forward 20 years and even though Yakuza 0 uses the newer engine the combat feels a lot more clunky that I remember, quite limited in a lot of ways, it gets tired quite fast, and I don’t love that aspect as much as I expected. But thankfully there isn’t actually that much combat so far, the game is far more of an interactive movie (with a LOT of mini-games) than I remember with long cutscenes followed by a few minutes of gameplay then another lengthy cutscene.

Thankfully the story is good, the characters, writing and voice work are excellent, add to that
the sense of place in Kamorocho is brilliant. I am still a little disappointed however, I thought I’d love it more based on memory and reputation. But I’m only on Chapter 8 of X, will see how I feel by the end.

Happy weekend folks I'll be on high on life 2 mostly this weekend loving it loads so far its really funny!
I'll play a bit of red dead redemption remaster aswell!

I had planned on other games this weekend the current gen upgrade for Kingdom Come Deliverance has thrown all that out of the window.

While I have played the game before that was many years ago when I still had a viable gaming pc. I can't remember a whole lot about it but I do recall being a bit frustrated at its often time very finicky game play. Hopefully I will have a little more patience this go around.

Anyhow those flowers wont pick themselves so back to it 😉

Taken an entire year but Avowed has finally clicked for me. Really enjoying adventuring around the second big area and the combat is really good fun. Also looks fantastic. Beyond that, finishing Space Marine 2.

Gave another chance to Fist of the North Star Lost Paradise and it's fun.
It's basically Yakuza with a Hokuto no Ken skin.
Maybe I'll go back to another playthrough of Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii after that.

@Scrubchub Good time for that as Avowed is getting huge update next week to coincide with its launch on PS5.

The big thing is new game plus but for first time players they have added new race options (& a way to change in game during your play through), quarter staff as a new weapon type and a bunch of other QoL options centered around the game difficulty to make it more challenging or not.

Hope you continue to enjoy your play through regardless.

@RiverGenie hmm, interesting - I wasn't aware there was an update! Maybe I should put it to one side for another few days! It's already a much more polished game than I remember it being at launch. The main city in the first area is transformed and now actually feels and looks like a city instead of a deserted town. I'm sticking with it anyway as now it's clicked it's really my sort or game. Hopefully Bethesda have taken note of how well a game of this type can actually play when making the best Elder Scrolls (love the Elder Scrolls, but mechanically this is in another league).

I will be taking the fight to Cyberstan in Helldivers 2, solving splodgy puzzles in Picross S8 and breeding weird gross cats in Mewgenics. I've been binge watching Superman & Lois most of the week so I haven't done much gaming.

Quite the busy weekend. I’m nearly finished with FF7 remake. I’m nearly done with chapter 17. Hoping to have it finished this weekend if I can. Also playing Fire Emblem Path of Radiance and a small amount of Splat Pack: AHH real monsters.

On Xbox, I’m playing Forza Horizon 4 and I just bought High on Life 2
