Feature: 30 Xbox Series X|S Games To Look Forward To In 2022

Update: Welcome to May! We've moved a few things around, deleted April's entries and added a few more games to the list to look forward to in 2022. Expect this list to get even more stacked throughout the year!

Original story: Well that was 2021, and what a year it was for Xbox gamers. We saw the return of Master Chief in the utterly excellent Halo Infinite, revved our engines and took off across Mexico in Playground Games' fantastic Forza Horizon 5 and traversed an astoundingly detailed globe in Microsoft Flight Simulator.

Beyond exclusives, we saw a brand new Resident Evil in the form of of Resident Evil Village, were wowed by the superlative It Takes Two and enchanted by the magic of Psychonauts 2. There were indie delights aplenty too with The Ascent, Sable, Death's Door and the majestically creepy Mundaun to name but a few.

It was, in short, quite the year and, while the world at large might not have managed to get back to normal just yet, games bravely continued to provide us plenty of means of escaping the chaos outside our doors. But what's next? Well, a new year has arrived and we've put together a list of 30 major games coming to Xbox Series X and Series S in 2022, a heady mix of superb looking titles that we'll be digging into alongside you all over the next year.

So, without further ado, it's time to take a quick look at just some of what the near future has in store. Let's jump in!

Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising (Xbox Series X|S)

We're being treated to another day one launch on Xbox Game Pass in early May with the release of Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising, which will also be followed up with Eiyuden Chronicle: Hundred Heroes in 2023. Rising will see you "delve into the stunning Runebarrows in classic side-scrolling action, swapping between three characters with distinct abilities." Featuring town-upgrading mechanics and fast-paced combat, Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising looks like it'll be a standout of the May 2022 Game Pass lineup, and we can't wait to get hands-on with it.

Evil Dead: The Game (Xbox Series X|S)

We've been keeping a keen eye on Evil Dead: The Game for a while — described as "the ultimate multiplayer experience," it allows you to "step into the shoes of Ash Williams or his friends from the iconic Evil Dead franchise and work together in a game loaded with over-the-top co-op and PVP multiplayer action." The game's being developed by Saber Interactive Madrid, and so far looks like a lot of fun, especially if you're a fan of the Evil Dead series of films! It's been delayed a few times, but it seems it's finally ready to unleash its horror on us.

Sniper Elite 5 (Xbox Series X|S)

The latest instalment of Rebellion's excellent sniper series, Sniper Elite 5 sees returning protagonist, Karl Fairburne, arrive in France as part of a covert US Rangers operation whose objective is to weaken the Atlantikwall fortifications along the coast of Brittany. He soon uncovers a secret Nazi project (what else?!?) that threatens to end the war before the Allies can even invade Europe. Can you put a stop to Operation Kraken? Cue slo-mo X-Ray testicle shots aplenty as the series' signature action returns, polished and improved for next-gen!

The Quarry (Xbox Series X|S)

This one was a bit of a surprise — the developer behind Until Dawn and The Dark Pictures Anthology teaming up with 2K of all publishers to work on The Quarry, a game that appears to follow the same pattern as those games in the form of a teen horror title in which you play as nine different camp counselors in a "thrilling cinematic tale", and your decisions have a massive impact on how the story plays out. The Quarry features a star-studded cast including David Arquette and Justice Smith just to name a couple, so it's definitely a big-budget title, and it could end up proving a massive hit if it's anything like Until Dawn in particular.

Sonic Origins (Xbox One)

If you're a Sonic fan, this one's for you! Sonic Origins arrives this June, featuring remastered versions of Sonic The Hedgehog, Sonic The Hedgehog 2, Sonic 3 & Knuckles, and Sonic CD, complete with all-new opening and ending animations for each title, along with new content, challenges, and Special Stages, and much more. Sure, most of these games are already available via backwards compatibility on modern Xbox systems, but this is undoubtedly going to be the best way to play them in 2022, and we can't wait for Sonic Origins to grace our consoles this June.

MX vs ATV Legends (Xbox Series X|S)

We've got a brand-new MX vs ATV game arriving on Xbox in May 2022, bringing the series to Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S for the very first time. MX vs ATV Legends will feature "massive new open environments, plus a career mode that lets you experience all the risks and rewards of becoming a world-famous professional rider," along with 2-player split-screen and a 16-player online mode. These games are always a lot of fun, and we're excited to see what the increased power of the Xbox Series X and Series S will do for the franchise this time around.

F1 Manager 2022 (Xbox Series X|S)

Frontier Developments, the developer behind beloved management sims such as Planet Coaster and Jurassic World Evolution 2, is working on this brand-new title in the form of F1 Manager 2022, which will allow you to control the F1, F2 or F3 team of your choice and do everything from manage vehicle upgrades to strategising with your drivers on the track. Motorsport Manager was a great game on the PC and Nintendo Switch, but it never made its way over to Xbox, so let's hope F1 Manager 2022 will be able to carry on where that game left off under a well-regarded new developer like Frontier. We've got high hopes for this one!

Redfall (Xbox Series X|S)

An open world co-operative FPS from Arkane studios that pits you and a team of pals against sexy vampires who've blocked out the sun and cut your island home off from the rest of the world? Yesh pleash!

Redfall hasn't dropped any gameplay footage yet, but from the official trailer we're getting a seriously funky vibe with a diverse cast of wise-cracking vampire slayers to choose from, each of whom has their own weapons and abilities to bring into battle. Expect plenty of the developer's usual clever gadgets and fancy tricks, top-notch writing and incredible world-building here. If the co-op and combat aspects come together we could be in for a real treat when we drop into Redfall Massachusetts to do battle with the undead sometime this year - and it's a day one title on Game Pass too!

Two Point Campus (Xbox Series X|S)

You've probably heard about Two Point Hospital at this point — SEGA's wacky answer to the Theme Hospital craze of the 90s, and it's proved a very popular and successful take on the genre over the past few years, included with Xbox Game Pass for a long time now as well. Two Point Campus is the follow-up to that game, this time focusing on "building the university of your dreams". Just like Hospital, there's a very silly nature to this one, with courses at the campus ranging from building huge pizzas to taking part in jousting lessons, and it looks like it's got all the ingredients to be another massive success.

Oh, and it's yet another Xbox Game Pass day one release!

Saints Row (Xbox Series X|S)

After skipping an entire console generation, Saints Row returns in a full on reboot that introduces a brand new street gang in the brand new city of Santo Ileso. Fans of the series will recognise the basic flow of play here as they take control of a fresh boss looking to make a name for themselves by snatching up rival territory around the city by any means necessary.

The game's trailer points towards a fresh new look, but one that retains the essence of the original series with lots in the way of zany action in the mix. There's a character creation tool this time around so you can style your very own boss, some new gameplay mechanics - which we don't have any details on just yet - and drop in/drop out two player co-op returns. After such a long time out of the scene, we're looking forward to welcoming Saints Row back into the fold when it hits Xbox in August 2022.
