Out of nowhere, Xbox has announced its next-gen hardware strategy today in the form of a short YouTube video, revealing a "strategic, multi-year agreement with AMD" that includes work on the next generation of Xbox consoles.
Xbox's Sarah Bond mentions in the video how this "next-generation hardware lineup" includes console, handheld, PC, cloud and accessories - and then hints at how next-generation consoles will be "in your living room and in your hands".
"I am thrilled to share we've established a strategic multi-year partnership with AMD to co-engineer silicon across a portfolio of devices including our next-generation Xbox consoles, in your living room and in your hands."
Sarah goes on to say how this AMD partnership will deliver "the next generation of graphics innovation" resulting in "a deeper level of visual quality", as well as "immersive gameplay and player experiences enhanced with the power of AI".
It's also confirmed that backwards compatibility will be a key part of the next-generation Xbox consoles, with a specific line noting how Xbox will "maintain compatibility with your existing library of Xbox games".
Finally, there's a reference to delivering an Xbox experience that's "not locked to a single store or tied to one device", with Team Xbox working closely alongside the Windows team to make Windows the number one platform for gaming. Sarah says it's all about building a platform that's "always with you" across multiple devices.
We'll leave you with Sarah's closing words, and you can watch the video up above. Let us know what you think below!
"The next generation of Xbox is coming to life, and this is just the beginning. We can't wait to show you what's next."
