Microsoft Flight Simulator Celebrates 2M Players, Teases Plans For 2021

Asobo Studios has announced today that the fantastic Microsoft Flight Simulator has officially surpassed two million players, becoming the fastest entry in the near 40-year-old franchise to achieve that feat.

In that time, the Microsoft Flight Sim community has piloted more than 50 million flights and logged more than 3.5 billion miles flown, and creators have developed over 500 airports, aircraft, and other add-ons.

"It’s been humbling to see the positive reactions to Microsoft Flight Simulator and we feel incredibly fortunate and blessed to have such a highly engaged community that continually helps us improve the simulation with their ongoing and insightful feedback."

Looking ahead, the game has an update arriving on December 22nd that will introduce VR support, some free themed liveries, and real-time snow and true-to-life ice coverage for the entire planet.

And as for 2021, we already know that Microsoft Flight Simulator is officially heading to Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S in the Summer, and Asobo says we can expect plenty more updates and some surprises as well.

"As we’ve said time and time again, our launch in 2020 was only the beginning of our journey with Microsoft Flight Simulator. We are excited to carry this momentum into 2021 – we will launch on Xbox Series X|S in the summer, we are planning 3 large updates to the simulation, and we will update the world 4-5 times with additional World Updates (as well as a few other surprises we have planned)."
