Josef Fares, the mind behind the impressive co-op adventure A Way Out, has unveiled the first gameplay trailer for his new title, It Takes Two as part of The Game Awards 2020.
Following the same principle of A Way Out, it seems It Takes Two will be a heavily based around the core idea of working together as the two main characters work on fixing their relationship in unusual ways. The genre-bending adventure is set to arrive on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One on March 26, 2021.
Much like A Way Out, a friend can dive in for free with the Friend Pass, which offers the ability to download and play with a friend who has already purchased the game.
"Play as the clashing couple Cody and May, two humans turned into dolls by a magic spell. Trapped in a fantastical world, they’re reluctantly challenged with saving their fractured relationship by the suave love guru Dr. Hakim. A huge variety of gleefully disruptive gameplay challenges stand between them and their return to normal."
"- Pure Co-Op Perfection – Invite a friend to join for free with Friend’s Pass*, and experience a thrilling adventure built purely for two. Choose from couch or online co-op with split-screen play, and face ever-changing challenges where working together is the only way forward.
- Gleefully Disruptive Gameplay – From rampaging vacuum cleaners to suave love gurus—with It Takes Two, you never know what you’re up against next. Filled with genre-bending challenges and new character abilities to master in every level, you’ll experience a metaphorical merging of gameplay and narrative that pushes the boundaries of interactive storytelling.- A Universal Tale of Relationships – Discover a lighthearted and touching story of the challenges in getting along. Help Cody and May learn how to overcome their differences. Meet a diverse cast of strange and endearing characters. Join forces, and go on an adventure you’ll treasure—together!"
It was one of the best announcements during The Game Awards, showing a lot of wit and charm, as well as colourful vibrancy which was missing from the other reveals. We're really looking forward to giving it a go next year.

This game actually looks like a lot of fun..
That looks great, actually. I always loved the idea of A Way Out, but could never get into the prison theme as a thing to do for fun. This looks to be a lot more interesting. Hopefully it can appear on Game Pass at some point (A Way Out did, after all!) - I'd definitely give it a try there.
Just started some couch co-op in A Way Out last night actually, and what I've played has been great. Game Pass delivers again.
