There's been a lot of talk about whether the Xbox console naming convention is too confusing with the arrival of the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, and even the retailers seem to be getting mixed up!
Yesterday, an Xbox All Access customer took to Reddit to report that they'd received their Xbox Series X pre-order, but instead of the next-gen console, they were greeted with the current-gen Xbox One X.
The order (which they "triple checked") was apparently made through Telstra in Australia, and after contacting the company, they were reportedly told to go through the return process and order a new one.
This story has also been shared by Australian outlet Press Start, which indicates that the person is a member of their Xbox Series X community and has been "advised that she will have to return the unit and re-order".
Do you think we might see more instances of this? Let us know your thoughts down below.

When you have untrained low wage people working in the supply chain. They can’t even match the unique SKU IDs defying standard protocol, let alone ignoring the obvious difference in names.
As much as I'm excited for mine, yea, I have no idea what they were thinking with the naming.
I can imagine the great disappointment she experienced when opening that package. Still, the One X is a fantastic system itself.
The stuff of nightmares.
I’m having pre wedding nerves as it is for the 10th, let alone hearing this bit of bad news 😂
OMG 😮 I hope this doesn’t happen to me come Tuesday!
@Nightcrawler71 And thats the bottom line right THERE!
This person will have PTSD for years. Microsoft needs to pay for
therapy😂
The early delivery date should have been a red flag
Deliveries going wrong, well that never happened before. Oh wait.
It's a bummer, but it happens. That's why you have returns.
@sanderev Appreciate that there are systems in place, but in this case though the person got it on Xbox all access and has to send this one back and then purchase another/do another credit agreement.
Not sure what the stock situation is like in Australia but there's no chance of getting one on all access here in the UK so Aus is likely the same.
That's gotta hurt..
Ouch! That bad naming decisions first causality.
Seriously though surely they scan things before sending them out, obviously someone lazy at their job and knows nothing about gaming
That is horrible especially since she has to reorder which means she lost her preorder spot. I’d switch retailers after that.
The mix-up isn't the story... It's the horrendous customer service policy. Sorry we didn't send you the item you pre-orderd. Too bad, get back in line. Uhh... Shouldn't they be sending one of their launch day inventory... Especially since they now have one extra...?
All Access through Telstra AU...
Telstra is f'n garbage, and this customer service doesn't surprise me in the slightest.
While there "could" be confusion with the naming to some people, Telstra should be able to deal with this considering their business in mobile phones.
Note: As an Australian, I reserve the right for a customer's viewpoint on Telstra 😉
To make it even more laughable, All Access is only available in Australia through Telstra, and is limited to existing customers that are on an existing plan (ie: already paying for a phone/internet plan)...
@NEStalgia I was thinking the exact same thing. What a joke!
@AJDarkstar since @jgrockford pointed out Telstra is a telco and isp, it's safe to assume it's legit. What telco or isp can you name, on any continent, with customer service better than this?
Cool that you have an SN assigned already! That's unexpected that they already picked the order!
That is horrid customer service.
@AJDarkstar the more i look the more i realize the retailers say "ships by release day tue November 10" for the ssds, and probably said the same for the consoles...i don't think release day delivery was ever offered for these... We just made that up based on past launches.......
I was planning on a new xbox in 2 days..... I'm betting it ships in 2 days and arrives sometime between wed and next Monday.....
@AJDarkstar yeah yours sounds like a sure bet... Microsoft shipped for release day. Target, walmart, best buy definitely haven't shipped any yet. If it's arriving release day they'd have to ship tomorrow and ship it next day air. Doubt that's happening. It did happen for switch.... So it's still possible.... Just unlikely.
Awful luck, hope they can get their new console soon.
This could happen a lot over Christmas with parents....
