If you pre-ordered an Xbox Series X from Amazon, be warned - as it may not arrive on time. Amazon has sent out a last-minute email to some US customers, which reveals they won't be receiving their new systems on the launch date.
Amazon says it expects to ship more consoles "in the coming weeks" as it receives more inventory in November and December. It anticipates these same customers will receive their orders "by" or "before" 31st December this year. Ouch!
Amazon also notes how it's "making every effort" to get the system to customers and apologises for any inconvenience.
Back in September, the company sent out a similar but different email to customers, explaining how not everyone would necessarily receive the Xbox Series X on the day of release due to "high demand".
Have you received the latest email from Amazon? Did you even pre-order from this site? Comment below.

Sounds like a standard amazon trick. Took way more preorders then there shipments would allocate
I was just able to order a Series X via the Xbox store (meaning on my Xbox One). After some hiccups, the order processed.
"Estimated Delivery Date: Dec 23, 2020"
The problem isn't Amazon.
Oh, Amazon. Someday you'll figure out this whole video games business and be just as good as GameStop! Hush now, and go play some watch dogs on Luna...
That's so Amazon. It's awful to do to people in a normal year, but this year is a kick in the nuts too many for anyone affected.
@hallower1980 Same. After about 30 minutes of hell through Newegg I finally got through with Microsoft. Seems like we've just bought products that aren't made yet.
@RedShirtRod I was signed into NewEgg when I gave the Xbox store another try. It went live about 12:10am.
I'm glad I didn't give up and glad I secured a Series X. I know Microsoft would like any who wants one to get it immediately. But I'm still pretty bummed about the delivery delay.
Microsoft claimed they would have more stock on launch day. If that proves to be an empty promise, then the late December delivery date could be as well. Their reasons might be understandable. But sympathy and trust aren't the same.
I’m none the wiser today.
Was charged for mine last night, email telling me that my extra controller was shipped but my main Xbox order says ‘arriving today’ with no shipping tracking or declaration that it’s shipped.
I don’t have an email from Amazon telling me it won’t arrive today, so there is that.
I remain optimistic.
I ordered mine through Microsoft Store and got an email the other day saying it’s being delivered by the end of today. Unfortunately for me I kept the pre-order for a work mate as I couldn’t afford it at this time due to buying a new car. Not going to lie, it’s going to be a tough pill to swallow when I hand the Series X over to him tonight 😩 I’ll be getting one in at least a few months but still...
I don’t think this has happened with Amazon in the UK fortunately (correct me if I’m wrong) I got my dispatch email late last night saying it will be here today...fingers crossed! I also received another email from Amazon with a discount code giving me 40% off 3 months of Game Pass Ultimate...cool.
@Nightcrawler71 Yep, seems like it might just be tied to US pre-orders. I've updated the article to reflect this.
I'm glad I didn't order from Amazon in the end just because of the sheer number of preorders they will have taken in. I ordered mine from Currys and it will be here between 14:30-15:30. I'm working today so not really bothered about getting it early.
As @hallower1980 posted this isn't just amazon, my cousin ordered from the MICROSOFT store and have had similar emails as has some of his mates apparently.
@Medic_Alert Jealous!!! Surprised you found the time to post here to tease us
Mine's dispatched and est. delivery today so thankful for that.
And here we have it...
9:28am
“Hello,
We're sorry about the delay in getting your order to you, but I'm pleased to tell you that we're preparing it for dispatch now.
Within the next business day you should receive an e-mail from us confirming that the following items have been dispatched:
"Xbox Series X"
Looks like I’ll be getting mine tomorrow then 😞
Typical amazon greedy mofos
@hallower1980 I was lucky and ordered on Microsoft store within 10 minutes after checkout taking ages and mine is being delivered by UPS today I cannot wait. Enjoy yours when it comes.
Amazon dispatched mine yesterday evening. It's tantalisingly close now; in my city. Can't wait!
I got the same email yesterday evening, so I've been scrambling to find one through other stores. Wish me luck!
Dirty tricks. Took people's money and now waiting for stock to actually fill orders. Happy i got through on MS store. Mine will be a day late but that's the end of the world.
I hope they weren't selling more units today on Amazon...they already have unfilled orders.
Sounds like it will be a long time before Amazon has any to sell to non pre-order ppl, ugh
I preordered mine from Costco, didn't ship until last night and estimate delivery is Thursday. Still just 2 days later, I'm fine with that. Gives me some time to get an external HD and start copying games, something I considered doing during the weekend but dragged my feet on.
@hallower1980 In this case it IS Amazon. These were people who preordered back in September.
I got an email saying I'm getting mine on Friday before 8pm
I live in Paris france
I ordered from amazon, 22nd of Septembe.
I cant really 😫 wait,we in lockdown in France till further notice.
Hurry up UPS!!!
Small delay via Amazon.de; arriving Thursday, 12 Nov. 🤣
@IsThatATitleist3 Fair enough. But the principle is the same. During the checkout process in the Xbox store, Microsoft showed 5-7 days as the delivery time. Then they charged my credit card and suddenly delivery was set for late December.
I'm not sure how I feel about people complaining about late deliveries when many people - myself included - haven't even been able to order a Series X/S yet. Yes, it's frustrating to wait, but given the state of the world at the moment, I'd be over the moon knowing I'd get a shiny new console in time for Christmas.
Thankfully, I got mine. Now for the hours of downloads lol
Mine was due for delivery on launch day. 4pm yesterday, Amazon changed their mind and said it was delayed until Friday. Complained via live chat and they gave me £100 of Amazon vouchers as compensation. Five minutes later, they threw my Series X at my front door.
Box was a bit crushed, but the console wasn't damaged so...yay, cheap Series X!
