If you're a fan of importing games from other countries or you've acquired quite the Xbox collection from overseas trips over the years, we've got good news - they'll reportedly work with no issues on Xbox Series X.
This is according to a article from Meristation, which says that Microsoft has informed the outlet that the console won't impose regional blocking on its disc-based games, and even the Xbox Series S will continue to provide access to digital Xbox stores in other territories, seemingly with no restrictions.
We've already seen region free support included with the Xbox One, so it's not necessarily a surprise, but it's welcome news all the same. The console's region-free capabilities will extend to supported Xbox and Xbox 360 discs too, but nothing has been said about Blu-ray movies, so it remains to be seen how those will fare.

One cool feature of Xbox One and Series X/S is that they play CDs unlike PS4 and PS5.

Are you assuming they are going to take advantage of multiple accounts in different regions &/or buy from other regions & risk greater awareness? You make it sound like you're part of an elite club and you're being snobby about new people joining.

If you're paying for cheaper versions of software from different regions then expect to run into issues. I'd say that importing physical copies from other regiongs is fair game, but if you're cheating the system and getting out of paying your local tax / VAT, then you deserve to have your account suspended &/or having the license for that software revoked.

@Xiovanni Nintendo Switch is Region free. That hasn't ruined it for anyone. Instead it has made gaming a lot more affordable for a lot of people. Nintendo don't mind and have not uttered even a peep of protest against it. Nintendo could easily have stopped it or made it harder but they seem happy simply for game sales to rise. It's part of the phenomenal popularity and success of Nintendo Switch.
As the world enters steep recession due to coronavirus affordable entertainment is exactly what billions of people need to get through this nightmare. Xbox understand that with their remarkable Game Pass. Phil Spencer understands that by making sure Xbox continues to be Region free and can play second hand physical games.

I've bought the game Stranger of Sword City, Asian region because it had english subtitles, was cheaper and the U.S. never got a physical release.
But tbh, if you live in the U.S. it's actually the other way around 99.99999...% of the time. We get the physical releases and the best prices because Xbox is an American company and everyone else usually imports from us. Regional sales is probably one of the reasons why Sony moved their headquarters to the U.S.

I live in UK the main price thing we have here on Xbox that I've seen is a good second hand games retail scene.
But it has also been nice to see Xbox giving UK some love with Forza Horizon 4! ❤️
