We've already heard how the upcoming title Star Wars: Squadrons will have a hardcore mode for experienced pilots. If that's still not enough, there'll also be hands-on throttle-and-stick (HOTAS) controls.
The good news is that this control method will also be available to console players, including Xbox One pilots. This was recently confirmed by the game's creative director Ian S. Frazier over on Twitter.
As noted, this feature will be made available in a day one patch when the game is released next month on 2nd October.
According to Frazier, the team went "above and beyond" to get this ready in time for launch day. Will you be making use of it? Fire off a comment down below.

Oh, that's actually really cool!
Yes, now I just need to get joystick. Any ideas?
As far as I love my actual Xbox One X, and my future Series X...
I must admit that I'll play this game on PS4, with the PSVR on my head.
I really hope that Microsoft comes with a solution for VR on its Series S/X. Maybe a compatibility with PC existant headsets, like Oculus or something.
There's a market here. It is still small, but it exists. And it's growing.
I’m more excited about the upcoming Flight Simulator VR update with all the flight controllers.
@Bobobiwan Is it really growing? I was under the impression that VR was hot for a couple of months in like 2016/2017, and interest has just faded away since then. I think most people has written off VR as a fad.
@Bobobiwan
I don't know. If I remember correctly Microsoft said that in their surveys the demand for VR is so small that they just don't bother.
@Justifier @JoakimZ Maybe so, I don't know. But if it is the case, I can say that I really don't understand.
VR is a game changer, it is the thing that we dreamed of thirty years ago, thniking it was never going to be possible.
And here it is. As imperfect as it is, it just WORKS. You ARE in another world, when you play on VR.
It's just so crazy. It is the future. It has to be.
@Bobobiwan Perhaps they bring a PC solution to Series, it makes sense.
@Bobobiwan the PlayStation vr has sold over 5 million units by January 2020 plus games like hitman and iron man would of added quite a bit to those sales so I expect that figure to be around 6 million by January 2021, there is a market for vr albeit a small market, I think they need to bring the price down to £200 maybe £150
@playstation_king
Yeah but 5-6 million units sold is very bad. PS4 is sold almost 100 million units.
I'm not saying VR is not good thing. But I think there is not enough market for it. And because of that, developers don't do good VR games.
@Justifier yeah most of the games are very lack luster, I wonder if people are just not interested or is it down to the price.
@Bobobiwan, @playstation_king, @JoakimZ, @Justifier, I think the concept that VR was a fad is probably related to the fact that mobile VR solutions, which were probably the sets with the most mainstream visibility (like Gear VR & Google Daydream) flopped pretty hard (limited in gameplay interactivity, limited in playtime due to phones overheating, plus different size phones & phones sliding around in the headsets messing with image quality), and stopped being produced/updated around that 2017 timeframe.
However, if memory serves me right I remember seeing an article early this year that said the high end VR space, while still pretty niche in the grand scheme of things, saw it's best spending in 2019 (while consistently seeing year on year gains before that as well). While I don't know how COVID is going to affect things, publishers keep bringing out a few high profile VR games a year (off the top of my head this year saw Half-Life Alyx & Iron Man VR, while Medal of Honor, Sniper Elite, & this Star Wars game are coming as well, plus Hitman III will be fully playable in VR too), so they must see SOMETHING in the space.
In context 5-6 Million is fantastic sales numbers for PSVR as well, considering it's an add-on accessory that's almost as expensive as the console itself, in a brand new market. It's already been confirmed that the current PSVR set will work on PS5 (I think some company has already even announced a VR game that's releasing on PS5, but not PS4), and it's a not so secret that Sony are working on an updated headset as well. I don't think they would have hesitated to drop support if they didn't see it as a success internally.
I know it may seem as if I'm some sort of PS fanboy, but I'm actually pretty platform agnostic, and find Series S to be awfully tempting, it's just that the lack of VR support is holding me back. If it were to get VR support I'd be really pressured to grab one.
I’m excited for this after playing Fallen Order but it is by EA. don’t get me wrong they have made some great games but micro transactions
Lucky it will support HOTAS, as I already bought a stick to play this game! Like someone else said though, I'll be playing it on PSVR. The VR level in Battlegrounds was simple yet amazing. This should be an incredible experience.
I've heard the argument that there aren't any good VR games a few times, but for me this is a lot of good games... Pistol Whip, Astro Bot, Polybius, Moss, Beat Saber, Blasters of the Universe, Tetris Effect, Rez Infinite, Transpose, Paper Beast, Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes, Statik, I Expect You to Die, No Man's Sky, Resident Evil 7, Battlezone, WipEout, The Exorcist, Minotaur Arcade Vol.1, Sprint Vector, The Persistence, Trover Saves the Universe, Ghost Giant, Red Matter, Blood and Truth, Sairento, Pixel Ripped 1989 and 1995...
