It's rumour time! We've got some very open-ended gossip to share today - VentureBeat reporter and noted industry insider Jeff Grubb says he's been informed that Microsoft is spending "a lot of money" on something Xbox related that isn't a new studio acquisition (via Video Games Chronicle).
Unfortunately, that's pretty much all he has to go on - he admits that he doesn't know what it relates to, although he also mentions that "the way it was phrased to me, it would be a big deal."
Grubb made these comments on the latest episode of the GamesBeat Decides podcast, speculating with his co-hosts that it could be something to do with bringing a major title to Xbox Game Pass, for example.
Ultimately though, it's all speculation for now. What do you think it could be? Share your thoughts below.

C’mon Microsoft show us already 🔥💚
I feel like Microsoft should get more deals like the one with Dead Rising Case 0 & West. Whereby a short 3-5 hour exclusive is made for the console. They should even do this with their own IPs as it extends their first party range and could potentially have a relatively quick turnaround.
E.g. a short Banjo or Perfect Dark. For third party, a short Dead Rising (again), or Mass Effect, or Saints Row.
How awesome would it be if they got Cyberpunk 2077 on game pass day one, since halo infinite is no longer a launch title.
@Joshucas It would be awesome for sure (!), but it's definitely not happening. That rumour has been stamped out by CD Projekt Red.
What ever it is, it better be something good, cause Phil knows fully that something is needed for the launch of Xbox to be something good.
Gotta burn some cash after that tik tok purchase fell through 😆
Persona 5 on Xbox???
What about having gamepass on Nintendo Switch after all...
@AJDarkstar More likely they are going to bring another AAA game pretty soon.
They wanted to keep something in the tank for after the PS5 reveal.
Something like Persona 5 would be a big deal. The work they’ve done with Sega to secure Yakuza means the relationship’s in place.
@RedShirtRod Ah well, I’m sure certain circles will be very happy with Oracle being the victors, the boss is a big supporter of the Wotsit-in-chief after all.
Ps now on game pass!
It probably ain't, but they should spend mulah on getting Nioh and Nioh 2 over to Xbox. I'm so tired of not getting non exclusive games that is released on PS.
Possibly a big third party exclusive, like Splinter Cell 6 or Crysis 4?
@Lupaie79 good idea, I really want Xcloud on switch!
Although, with the Switch’s antennae, maybe not so much..... then again, the controls would be awesome...
hmmm... I’m torn
@TimG13 Phil made such a massive deal about throwing money at a dev and locking other consumers out being "bad for business" that one would blow up in their face massively. Lol.
If the talks of Bungie acquisition are not true and we're just a rouse, then am going to go with MS fully funding and publishing Bungie none Destiny game for Series X / S. & PC. Exclusively Which in any case, it's an awesome deal.
Paying Bungie to help on Halo Infinite sounds good to me
How about a trade-in program where you bring in your XB1 and you get a discount on Series X | S?
You can almost guarantee it's something to do with Game Pass.
@nessisonett My Persona 5 crack was tongue in cheek, but I would love for it to come to other consoles.
Obviously, getting Cyberpunk on Game Pass at launch would be massive. But CD Projekt Red denied that is happening.
Since they have the marketing deal with Ubisoft for Assassin’s Creed, maybe Valhalla will be on Game Pass at launch?
@Bobarino don't toy with me!! lol
...although Dragon Quest 11 is coming, so never say never....
@kantaroo done!
@FraserG stalker will be console exclusive
@kantaroo gamestop is doing that. Dunno how much you'll get. Maybe "tree fiddy"
@armondo36 it's already on gamepass. But says release date is December 3rd. But they're letting you download it. That's 4 months ahead, unless gamepass subscribers can play it now.
@PhhhCough yea i have it preloaded, but it's not available to play...Persona 5 would be AMAZING, but i doubt it. Sony is scared to death, so they're buying up as many exclusives as possible, to avoid competing with Microsoft on power or services.
