US Retailer Target has reportedly begun listing a 'version 2' of the Xbox One S as part of its internal product system, possibly hinting that a console revision could be on the way (via VGC).
This was revealed by a supposed employee of the company on Twitter, who shared an image of the listing which apparently had "just appeared" on the system, with a price of $299:

It remains to be seen what the 'version 2' aspect of the name is alluding to - some have speculated that the new Xbox controller might be included with the console going forward, or even that the listing is a placeholder for the unannounced Xbox Series S. Of course, it could also be referencing something as minor as a new production run.
We'll keep you informed if we hear anything more about it!

OneS for 299 would mean XSS would just not come out at 299 as many expect. It would likely place the XSS at 399 minimum.
Could be placeholder pricing, though.
I would expect the production of the Xbox One S To move to the same fabrication process as the Xbox series consoles. That would reduced cost and make them more power efficient. They’re obviously going to prioritise production of the new consoles over reducing the cost of the old and therefore this shift is likely to happen slightly after the launch of the series consoles.
I love my Xbox One S!
I bought my S All digital for less than 140€ on Amazon a year ago and I love it! XD
More likely to be Series S, why on Earth would the One S get a revision now apart from to make it significantly cheaper
Will be a placeholder for Series S.
The 299.99 price is what's been rumored as well.
@StrangeBit I regret not buying a one s ad Canadian for 179 during Christmas season. I assumed there would be plenty on sale in 2020.
It's the Series S. I have absolutely no doubt about it.
The Series S wil totally replace the One S, like the Series X will totally replace the One X.
There will be no Ones consoles on shelf anymore, mark my words.
So I read the news like this : The Series S at 299 dollars.
And that's a pretty good price. I even expect it to go at 99 dollars with a two years gamepass subscription.
It's gonna be huge.
@Tharsman Which logically means Series X is 600$ ?
In a recent digital foundry video on YouTube all three reporters were implying they expect a 600$ pricing for the consoles.
Yeah, this makes no sense to have a revised Xbone S. It's a great console, but the Series S should replace it now.
But if this is a misprint or intentional place holder name for the Series S, this would be huge for xbox. All the problems they've had with the showcases and having to delay Halo would get overshadowed by a next gen console at $300. That's the sort of thing that helped the Switch be as big as it is.
@BrilliantBill Yeah. It would most likely be $600. It's strange, I told everybody damn near the beginning of the year that the consoles would cost $600 (I thought maybe more) and we'd have games running at 30fps, even sub 4K and people got very defensive about it (mostly on the other site).
There is already a "V2" Xbox One S Digital Edition in local shops. Dunno the difference though.
It should be Series S, we already know that it's a real console because of the leaked controller package. If it's 300 that's a very good price considering that it's a next-gen console and cheaper than a Switch.
@BlueOcean If series S goes for 300 it will give xbox a real edge.
@Richnj
Microsoft can afford to take a major loss per console sold and is prepared to undercut Sony as soon as Sony announces a price. Sony is well aware of this and may well have considered doing the same in response. Thus, we have a price standoff. $600 seems much higher than their manufacturing costs; and they're planning on taking a hit. I won't be surprised if one of them is at least as low as $400.
@BlueOcean @Bobobiwan @carlos82 The reason for a revision of the One S would be precisely to make it cheaper to manufacture.
Just for starters I could see them removing the whole HDMI pass through functionality, and potentially the S/PDIF and/or IR out.
I would expect it to continue to have a disk drive, but could have one with a slide-top similar to the last PS3 model, something that would be cheaper than the current slot mechanic. It’s very common for console manufacturers to make a final hardware revision at the end of the gen, since every manufacturer has always found a market for last gen hardware for a couple more years after new gen transitions start.
@Tharsman a lot of that makes sense but that price tag doesn't, nobody's going to buy it at anywhere near that price when the new consoles launch
Not sure what to think here, part of me just thinks it's a revision of the One S...
It would make sense, the 360 had a few revisions near the later part of it's life, it would also fit with the narative earlier stated and the price could just be a placeholder.
Although obviously I hope it's the Series S 😀
@BrilliantBill Yes, that and Game Pass would be the perfect purchase for many people.
Xbox absolutely butchering the marketing of whatever their other new console actually is, as well as the Series X itself.
@carlos82 price tag is almost certainly a place holder. But there is still a chance the rumored Series S could still go for $400, and even the last 360 E model, I think, sold for about $300.
It’s not easy to sell even the older consoles for less than $300 and still make a profit (and they won’t sell those older decided at a loss.)
If it is $299 where does that leave Xbox Series S (and X)?
