Update (Tue 28th Jul, 2020 06:05 BST): Sorry folks, it was an error. A representative from Blizzard provided Polygon with the following statement:
“We currently have no plans to bring World of Warcraft or Shadowlands to Xbox Series X. The platform was listed on the Brazil Ministry of Justice rating website in error, and the entry has since been updated to reflect that the game is coming only to PC.”
Original article (Mon 27th Jul, 2020 14:52 BST): What on earth is going on here?! According to a rating on the Classificacao Indicativa website in Brazil, World of Warcraft: Shadowlands has today been rated for Xbox Series X, as well as PC.
We're learning this courtesy of Gematsu, which acknowledges that it could just be an error, so hopefully a representative from Blizzard will shed some light on this in the near future. Here's a picture of the rating:
Of course, World of Warcraft has never made an appearance on console in its sixteen year history, so this would be an unbelievable announcement if true. Don't take it as fact just yet, though...
Would you love to see World of Warcraft on Xbox Series X? Give us thoughts in the comments.

I knew it. Once they started doing controller layout schemes it was just a matter of time. Also a reminder that Mike Ybarra left Xbox to become Exec. Vice President of Blizzard. It all fits together.
This would be HUGE.
Maybe this was a 🎤 drop moment Microsoft saved for a later date after their July showcase?
It would not surprise me. I been told by devs before that MMOs they work on make more money on each console than they make on PC, meaning that not doing Xbox and PS ports self-limits their revenue by 2/3rds.
Right now FFXIV is making a killing, and I heard that supposedly it surpassed WoW on some metric (active users? Subscribers? Hours played? Don’t know....) Blizzard is really behind the times by being stuck on PC.
@KelticDevil would be BIG if they announce both: World of Warcraft and FFXIV coming to XBox Series X.
Yes it would. Phil has said they will get FFXIV on Xbox, but nothing yet. We’ll see.
I am not an MMO guy anyways. Just like with “live service” games......I blame Destiny 2 for my massive back log of games to play. lol. But that’s just me.
Either game would be huge for Xbox to get, however.
This would be a dream come true for me but I won't get excited till an official announcement.
@FraserG According to Blizzard it's an error

@Grot Just because it has controller support doesn't mean it's coming to console. According to Blizzard the reason for the controller options is to make WoW more accessible to people on PC especially for those with disabilities.
@Tasuki Thank you! Disappointing news.
The true error is us finding out too soon.
@KelticDevil I have been doing my best to stay away from MMOs and service games myself. Over the years, my backlog can be mostly be tracked down to me buying games I want to play but spending months on this or that MMO, and I vowed to stop that.
I do enojo FFXIV story a lot, though, and hope to subscribe at some point to experience the whole expansion and then stop, do my best to treat it as a single player game.
Shame this is just an error, but it is still just a mater of time before they are forced to support consoles. They been saying no to a lot of growth , and sooner or later the parent company will force them to do so.
@Grot Subredits don't mean nothing. For years people have been hoping for WoW to come to console. If anything WoW Classic could come to console but WoW itself probably not. Blizzard has stated in the past that bringing WoW to console is a nearly an impossible task. Unless it was created from the ground up. WoW is nearly 20 years old now and alot of the code has been lost or rewritten so many times that it's like trying to untangle a 20 year old ball of string that is still being added to, hence why it would be just easier to port WoW Classic over since that has been rebuilt from the ground up.
@FraserG I figured as much which is why I didnt get too excited about it. Would have been nice.
@Tharsman Blizzard does support console. Diablo and Overwatch are both available on console. Heck they have been supporting consoles off and on through out the years. RPM Racing Blizzards first game (when they were called Silicone and Synapse) was on consoles. Then there was Lost Vikings as well. Also StarCraft Ghosts was being developed for the Xbox, PS2 and GameCube but was canceled due to the shift of the console generations.
@Tasuki
Also Starcraft 64. 👍🏻
@Tasuki I meant, force them to support consoles with WoW specifically.
@KelticDevil Yep forgot about that one. Never played it myself but I heard it was a pretty good port
@Tharsman Activision won't. They leave WoW alone letting Blizzard handle it as they see fit.
@Tasuki They have managed to keep things that way, they been demanding growth for a few years now. Why do you think Diablo Eternal is even a thing? It's all pressure from high up to start making more money.
@Tasuki
I actually was. I think it even used the N64 expansion pack thingy. Lol.
