The Messenger

Update: This has now been confirmed by Devolver Digital. Hooray!

Original story: If you love ninja-themed video games - especially of the old-school variety - then you absolutely must check out the "excellent" action-platformer The Messenger by Sabotage Studio.

According to a listing on the Microsoft Store, publisher Devolver Digital will be releasing this indie hit - inspired by classics such as Ninja Gaiden and Shinobi - on the Xbox One next week, on 25th June.

Here's the official store description:

As a demon army besieges his village, a young ninja ventures through a cursed world, to deliver a scroll paramount to his clan’s survival. What begins as a classic action platformer soon unravels into an expansive time-traveling adventure full of thrills, surprises, and humor.

One of the most unique aspects of this game is how it jumps between 8-bit and 16-bit sprites, animations, and backgrounds. Take a look in the trailer below:

There's also free DLC for this title called Picnic Panic, but there's no mention of this (just yet) on the Microsoft Store listing. Will you be checking this game out when it shows up on Xbox One next week? Tell us down below.
