Rumour: Take-Two Refutes New GTA 6 Release Window Rumour

Update (Thu 28th May, 2020 11:30 BST): Following this rumour, a representative from Take-Two Interactive reached out to various websites including GamesIndustry.biz to confirm the unusually high marketing figures for fiscal 2024 in the 10-K financial table relate to commitments made to third-party companies.

As Rockstar Games is an internal studio, it now appears the figures aren't connected to GTA 6.

Original Story (Tue 26th May, 2020 21:00 BST): Earlier this month, it was suggested by industry insider Jason Schreier that GTA 6 was "years away," but no specific dates were mentioned. Now, website Venture Beat has pointed out that Take-Two is expecting to spend $89.2 million on marketing throughout fiscal 2024 (ending March 31, 2024), which is a far larger marketing budget than any other fiscal year over the next five years.

While this doesn't necessarily confirm GTA 6 is being targeted for a 2023 or 2024 release, analyst Jeff Cohen of investment firm Stephens reportedly pointed out to investors that Red Dead Redemption 2's release date was successfully predicted this way in the past.

It should be noted that Take-Two's previous 10-K financial filing (the company releases these every year), highlighted a similar budget for fiscal 2023 instead, so it looks like something might have been pushed back. Is it GTA 6? Quite possibly, but it might be a long time before we know for sure.

Do you think GTA 6 will release in 2023? Earlier? Later? Give us your thoughts in the comments.
