It's been a while since we last heard anything about Dead Island 2, with the game having been officially announced back at E3 2014. It appears it's still on the cards, however, with a new job listing at Dambusters Studios suggesting the next instalment in the franchise will be "a ground-breaking title for current and future platforms."
The job is for an Art Director at the company, and states that the successful applicant will lead the art team "as they create the sun soaked backdrop to a full scale zombie apocalypse set across the iconic Californian city for the next instalment in the world renowned Dead Island franchise."
Based on that information, it's fair to suggest we might be getting Dead Island 2 for both Xbox One and Xbox Series X in the future, making it a cross-gen title. No guesses as to when it might drop, however, with the game having changed developers multiple times over the past few years.

I'm always a bit of two minds, when it comes to modern zombie games. Although I do like and enjoy them for what they are (I've had tons of fun with Left 4 Dead, for example), I'm just much more a fan of "actual" zombies, or the more classic type of zombies, if you will.
Running, jumping and swimming zombies make little to no sense to me, as a fan of the original source material.
You might disagree and think that a bunch of slowly shuffling reanimated corpses isn't scary or exciting enough, but it's exactly that which makes it so oppressive and awe-inspiring: an almost never-ending, unstoppable mass of hungry monsters, slowly but surely making their way towards you, feels more suffocatingly frightening to me than a couple of runners, jumpers or spitters, that I can easily kill off.
But of course, that's just my personal opinion. For the right price, I'd probably still get this...
This game is still in development?!! Wow. Is anyone even asking for another Dead Island game at this point?
The first game was surprisingly fun. It was broken, janky, and unpolished in a lot of ways but the loop was addictive for me. Surprised they're still plugging away at this after such a long silence but I hope it works out well for them!
There's such a thing as announcing a game too early and then there's this. 😧
Can it hold a candle to Dying Light 2 though?
