Well, it seems that Microsoft have decided to start bellowing about Xbox 360 backward compatibility on Xbox One in a big way (as you'd expect) and their latest move is to create a video that it would be generous to call a parody of one by their main competitor.
Back in the bad old days, Sony scored some major points when they released a video that placed Microsoft's intended DRM restrictions in the firing line, announcing that they would not be putting any such limitations in place. Check it out below...
Microsoft have now released a video showing you exactly how easy it is to use backwards compatible Xbox 360 titles on Xbox One, with the part about playing disc-based titles looking like they've taken a few cues from Sony.
Of course, the entire 47 second video does show that you have to download games but that's not what everybody is picking up on, especially when the ad contains questions like "Why would you pay for something you already own?" and "What if I want to play if I'm not online?" - both clear shots at Sony's PlayStation Now streaming service. It also sort of fails to mention that only 104 of the (roughly) 1,162 available Xbox 360 games are available via backward compatibility right now.
Oh, it also doesn't help when Xbox UK are publishing tweets like this, which remove any mention of having to download anything:-

A bit of cockiness from time to time is good and it must be tempting to get the ad machine in action given that the new Xbox One O/S is considerably quicker than the PlayStation 4 O/S, that the "impossible" backwards compatibility functionality has been rolled out, and that the Xbox One has just won the month in the US, but we're not sure this was the best move, given the reaction that it seems to have elicited...

R-TYPE go on
Xbox one all forgiven (4k please)
I NEED that dudes hair. How does he maintain such a graceful volume??
On topic, you'd think you would at least have a bulk of your first party games working (Halo) before you make these call outs. But good gosh at least we can play Hardwood Backgammon now
>. <
Microsoft has been owning Sony this year (in my opinion, it's not even close), but getting arrogant is what got them in big trouble in the first place.
They should just take their end of year victories, bow gracefully & keep it up in 2016. If not, all of this will be blowhard nonsense.
@A_BabyRed_Yoshi
Lots of product. Lots & lots of product. Lol.
But, what do I know? I shave my head all the time. Not much of a "do your hair nice" kind of guy.
@KelticDevil
Meh, I never agree with childish potshots at the competition but all the companies, including Nintendo, are guilty of this. MS has been getting its brains beat in pretty good at retail, but software wise it's winning the exclusive battle and that has helped turn away much of the initial negativity surrounding the console. As an owner of both machines I'd say while I'm generally happy with the PS4 user experience, MS' updates are usually more substantial and the company seems to do a better job listening to what the gamers want than Sony does (still no folders on PS4, just recently got avatars and I've given up hope for external hdd support). So, I say let MS take the wins where it can and brag a bit. As long as the company doesn't go completely insane again like it did back in 2013, I'm willing to put up with the childish mudslinging because again all these corporations take part in the immaturity. Doesn't make it right but it is what it is.
@KelticDevil
I try to gel it, it just falls down in an hour
Someday, I will have my dream hair while driving my brand new dark blue Corvette down the highway
@A_BabyRed_Yoshi
A baseball cap is the best solution.
@Gamer83
Yea arrogance leads to stupidity and gamers lose. Sony learned with the PS3 launch & MS learmed with the Xbox One launch.
I love that Xbox is doing well, because competition is a win for us gamers. When these companies have to fight to earn our $, it's great for us.
As long as P. Spencer is in charge & Don Mattrick stays FAR away.....I think we're all good.
Btw, I second the baseball cap comment. I wear one daily.
@KelticDevil
The most interesting upcoming competition is going to be the battle in the VR space. I have no interest in VR gaming itself but we know Sony is investing a lot of money into its own VR device and MS is making deals to get involved. I'm sure the corporate mudslinging and you know what waving will kick up and be better than the videos posted in this article and I actually look forward to getting a few laughs. The stuff Sega did in the 90s was beyond immature, but it was effective and in some ways it was brilliant.
And yeah, I never leave home without a Yankees, Bulls or Jets cap. Much easier than throwing annoying product in my hair, which is usually real short anyway.
@Gamer83
I have zero interest in VR gaming too. But, like you said, I am curious to see what will happen.
Is it going to be another fad, like motion controls? Is the pricing going to be too steep for casual gamers? Is the software going to be any good? So mny questions.
I do remember liking the trash talk from Sony to.Nintendo back in the day, though. A guy dressed as Crash Bandicoot with a megaphone outside Nintendo offices gave me a laugh.
@KelticDevil
Whenever I see companies taking shots at one another I think back to Genesis does what Nintendon't.
@Gamer83
Ahhh......the good 'ol days. I miss them. Lol.
@KelticDevil
Take a game home, put it in the system, play. No bs updates, no worrying if you might not be able to use the system because it can't connect to the damn internet. Simpler, more fun times, imo. I was also in grade school so I really didn't have many big worries back then.
@Gamer83
Exactly! The days when a game was released only when finished. Amazing concept, huh?
That's one thing I have to give Nintendo credit for. They release FNISHED games. They may have said the infamous quote, "online gaming is a fad", which is completely ridiculous, of course. But at least you know when you buy a game from them, it'll work properly. Lol.
@Gamer83 ...good points, but in a fair few cases - oh, I could name some sports titles that I wanted to set fire to... - it was more like "Take a game home, put it in the system, try to play...give up because of the bugs that can't ever be fixed."
On the whole though, you're right of course.
@SuperKMx
There's no question some games were bugged to heck. Back in those days though I was mostly renting games on the weekend so if something was unplayable at least it was only a $3 loss as a opposed to $60+.
@Gamer83 lol yr right the good old days just stick the cart in and your away. And the only proplems we had was had to blow in to the cart sometimes pop it back in and we were away lol.
@A_BabyRed_Yoshi Lol I've got all the achievements for that.
@sorethumbed
Teach me your ways!
I used to be pretty good at backgammon. I used to play in a world league on the PC and got to number 3. Gave it up as you couldn't play for fun anymore, all that happened was challenge after challenge.
@A_BabyRed_Yoshi LOL I think it's wax (just a little bit) and hairdryer, that's how you do that.
I think Xbox One is a much better product now than when it launched. On the other side, PS4 is a bit stuck because of the PlayStation Now thing, which won't work well in Europe and is annoying users (including myself). I don't think it's a bad move to be proud about what they have achieved, but misleading information is a problem (as stated by Ken Barnes).
