Microsoft - or more specifically Phil Spencer - has announced the final launch date for the New Xbox One Experience (NXOE - or the new dashboard, to the layman) and backwards compatibility for all Xbox One owners.
Previously, both new pieces of functionality were available only to those in the Xbox One Preview Program, but speaking on a stream supporting the Halo 5: Guardians launch, the full rollout will happen on November 12th for all users.
At this time, the full list of backwards compatible games has not been confirmed, but we'll bring you the entire lineup just as soon as we find out what it is. We're relatively sure that Burnout Paradise will be added to the list, based on tweets from Criterion's account, as well as numerous Microsoft first-party titles.
The New Xbox One Experience should roll out to your console on November 12th without you having to do much of anything if you're in Instant On mode. Folks who have Power Saving mode enabled may have to head into the Settings menu and force an update check.

Good to know. Maybe this means they'll start rolling those Gears of War codes out soon so I can download those to my X1.
I'm hoping some fighting games get the backwards compatible treatment. It probably won't happen so soon though.
I think I'll stick with my Xbox 360 when I want to play the old games. I haven't been too impressed with the emulation on the One.
I can't say I am happy with the NXOE so far. I know its in the Beta phase but the latest update has been very problematic. Even before the latest update, my games on disc wouldn't load (requiring hard resets and multiple removing and putting the disc back in to work) and the whole system was unstable with a lot of freezing/crashing. However the latest patch has stopped Party Chat from working too.
I really do think that MS has a LOT of work to do before they launch this to everyone! As someone who plays a lot of disc based games in a party, its made my experience incredibly frustrating and basically made my console unusable for the purpose I bought it.
This is one of the reasons I'm going to buy an Xbox One later this year, the other big reason is Rare Replay. I already bought Rare Replay and Resident Evil Revelations 2. My only question is, is it any improvement compared to the recent beta Xbox 360 compatibility? I have read everywhere that some Xbox 360 games have frame issues in Xbox One, Banjo-Kazooie Nuts & Bolts being the typical example. That is one of the game I want to play a lot -one of the downloadable games in Rare Replay-, so I'm wondering if Microsoft have fixed that issue or if they are going to fix it or not in the future.
@shonenjump86 I'm hoping for some fighting games as well. Paticularly since it's an area the XBox One is severely lacking in. Correct me if I'm wrong, but what do we have? Killer Instinct, Dragon Ball Z and DOA? What am I missing? Unfortunately, fighting games are low on their voting site I'm not sure how much weight our votes get.
@BAMozzy I almost feel like November 12 is too soon. The Beta is getting better, but it's still a buggy mess not to mention laggy at times. A little over two weeks to go. MS has a lot of work to do.
The NXOE has been much improved since the most recent update. It no longer crashes and runs crystal smooth now. Only issue I have is that there's no way to watch game clips of friends since it won't successfully load anywhere, and they just got rid of Upload for some reason
@Sir_JBizzle
There's Mortal Kombat and Blazblue as well. But yeah, Xbox One is lacking on the fighting games. Hopefully that will change soon.
@shonenjump86 I'm not sure how I missed Blazeblue for some reason I thought it was just on PS4, I'll have to pick that up. And worse, I own Mortal Kombat. Not sure why I whiffed on that one ha.
@BAMozzy I'm with you has been an extremely frustrating experience and I wasn't in the first wave who had the very buggy version. Even getting them to recognize new errors on the preview reviews is annoying as there are things wrong that don't seem to be on their known issue lists.
@flameboy84 I have tried to contact them regarding the issues I have, commented in their forums along with many others struggling with the same problems, even spoken to their support team (although they know nothing as they are not part of the preview) but these problems still persist.
I haven't been able to play properly since last week. Even then disc based software was struggling to load up with multiple hard resets, taking the disc out and putting it back in etc finally getting the game to load - something I have to do every time I turn my XB1 on or even swap discs. Party chat doesn't work at all. my headset though is working as game sounds and game chat does work but its not always available for people with certain headsets, kinect and some nat issues where as Party chat has often worked for everyone.
After reporting the disc issue multiple times, I had hoped it would have been fixed by now. Its not helped by the instability of the NXOE and every time that freezes, crashes etc, it means I have to go through the whole procedure of trying to get the disc drive to be recognised so my game loads again. When it takes 20mins+ just to get a game to start up every time I turn on my xbox, restart it or switch discs, its a lot more than just 'frustrating'.
I can't comment on the list of other known issues as I really only use my XB1 to play games - mostly disc based and frequently in parties. I do feel that subsequent updates have actually made my issues worse and added new issues too.
With such a short time to come before this is released to all, MS has a LOT of work ahead or they will have a LOT of very frustrated and angry people to appease!
@Utena-mobile
It might be best to get Blazblue through Amazon. I still don't have the game. I went to a GameStop store and they only had 1 copy and it was for PS4.
Fortunately in software development, you rarely release the very latest version of the code to testers. You release an earlier snapshot of the code to the wider world in order to test specific usage scenarios, so that they can be fixed in the latest version.
In short, if NXOE is ready for release on November 12th, the chances are that it's all but finished already and ready to go, with minor polish and fix work being done in the next couple of weeks.
