@DRL got it installed, waiting for release day. I think its going to be a good one, I've watched a video of the first boss and it looks like its going to be a very hard game!
I should've said: We got a review copy somewhat late, so it's going to be a while before we get a review live. If you guys have any general non-spoilery questions you want answered before then, now that the embargo is up, ask me here (be sure to tag @DRL so I get an email alert). I'm going to save the bulk of my opinions for the review, but I'm willing to provide a little insight into the game if that's what you seek. Just keep in mind that I'm only 24 hours deep at the time of writing.
@crippyd If you're referring to the very first boss, the knight with the sword through his chest, he's actually a breeze if you know what you're doing. I think I beat the first two bosses on my first attempt. The third one, though, was a different story.
@crippyd: Yeah, that's likely him. His name is ludex Gundyr, and a massive oily-black creature erupts from his head (or back?) mid-fight. I was so aggressive during that phase of the battle that I think he was only able to get off one attack. I've been very shocked to hear that some people have had a hard time with him. Honestly, outside of a spike in one area, the difficulty increase has been very, very smooth so far. I haven't felt obligated to grind yet and I'm almost halfway into the game.
@DRL yeah, that was the one I watched. On the last two games I've gone with strength build and on 2 I've also got decent levels on the other stats as it was fairly easy to level up although now it takes 250k per level for me. Is the levelling more like 1 or 2 do you think?
@crippyd: I haven't played enough of the original Dark Souls to be able to compare the leveling systems, but I can say that I don't feel like I'm leveling up as frequently or quickly as I did in DSII. I recall many times in DSII when I'd be able to level up 3-5 times after beating a boss, and that's not really happening here. I've been leveling up once, maybe twice, after bosses in DSIII. I would say maybe I'm slightly over-leveled, but I doubt that's the case considering I haven't done any grinding. For the record, I'm focusing on Endurance, Strength, and Dexterity with this build, while giving Vitality and Intelligence a slight bump as I go.
@DRL that's how my current build is on DS2. I would say that it is more like DS than 2 from what you are describing. My priorities have been to get the stamina bar up and strength up so I can hit hard and many times or hit hard and run away!
@A_BabyRed_Yoshi: Yeah, DSIII runs at 30fps (with occasional drops). It's comparable to Bloodborne when it comes to performance. As far as difficulty goes, I'd say it's the friendliest in the series when it comes to early-game areas. However, the difficulty really ramps up about halfway in, and now it's harder than anything I played in DSII (keep in mind that I only played about 2/3 of DSII).
@DRL: Are shields a thing again? I know DS3 is taking a lot of cues from Bloodborne, but I was kind of bummed out by how few different builds there were in Bloodborne.
Also (can we ask 2 questions? I'm going to ask 2 questions), is there an early game item that can let me keep my human form in appearance? I hate looking like an ugly zombie. (T-T )
Although... I guess that's the point of being an "undead."
btw, who's getting the game on ps4 and who's getting it on xbone? (^_^ )/
@A_BabyRed_Yoshi: As long as you won't get hell for missing work, go for it!
@Utena-mobile Yep. I've been using a shield the entire time. And in terms of appearance, I'm not 100% sure; I've been wearing face-concealing masks and helms from the get-go. But as an unkindled, you don't go hollow the same way you did in previous games. Well, there is a way to become hollow, but I won't spoil the details. I'll be sure to pay more attention to my character's appearance when I enter into NG+.
@Utena-mobile: Read my mind! I haate how you were hollow, making the character creation almost useless, at least till you got that ring. I'm getting it on Xbox ( ^.^) b
I've had my xbox background set to the DS3 box art for weeks, it looks so freakin kool with a k!
Haha, I never thought in a million years id ever love dark souls
@DRL: I'm glad. I kind of like the slower pace of DS a little bit more than Bloodborne's parry system.
@A_BabyRed_Yoshi: lol. I always spend too long on character creators. I remember playing Oblivion (love that game) when I was little and spending 2 hours making my character (ps3 too, so no mods) and she turned out great! btw, I'm also getting DSIII on Xbox. (^_^ )/
@Utena-mobile Xbox for me, I don't own a PS4. TBH I barely have enough time on the Xbox, what with kids and a wife that hates my hobby and only one TV in the house. First world problems right there
