Topic: When Do You Think We'll Get Another Major Announcement From Microsoft?

I think it's fair to say that Microsoft has done a great job this year in terms of games and Game Pass in general. However, I feel like this year we haven't had many major announcements from Microsoft, not only in terms of acquisitions but also partnerships, e.g. when they added EA Play to Game Pass Ultimate last year. I remember from earlier this year that a lot of Microsoft employees had a huge meeting for upcoming things in 2021 and a lot of them tweeted that 2021 is going to be an amazing year. In terms of games and Game Pass, it's been a great year and will continue to be that with titles like Halo and Forza. But I'm wondering if they still have anything left to announce in 2021, like a new acquisition, maybe adding Ubisoft+ to GPU or making online multiplayer free. Just anything huge that will make a lot of people excited for Xbox.

What do you think? Will we see anything more announced this year or are Microsoft saving their big stuff for 2022?

I think there'll be an event around the 20th anniversary of Xbox in November, something like a digital version of X0. Also a few announcements at the Game Awards.

There's some games announced in Xbox showcases that haven't received info in awhile but are still scheduled for 2021:

  • Halo Infinite campaign info (August development update suggested campaign news closer to launch)
  • Scorn (still scheduled for Fall 2021)
  • Grounded 1.0 (as in no longer in early access, still scheduled for 2021)
  • As Dusk Falls (still scheduled for 2021)
  • CrossfireX (still scheduled for 2021)
  • Bright Memory Infinite (still scheduled for 2021)
  • Chorus (still scheduled for 2021)

So a bunch of those games, more info on 3rd party stuff for 2021/2022, a few XGS studios games announced for 2022 and more info on Redfall, maybe have some things to do with the legacy of Xbox (e.g. bringing back backwards compatibility, FPS Boost) as well as the usual Game Pass stuff.

Then at the Game Awards probably announcing a game far off into the future, 1st expansion for FH5 along with promo trailers for Halo Infinite, any XGS games in early 2022 and the usual "Game Pass coming soon".

@Grumblevolcano Ah yes, a November event does make sense. Although I don't know if they'll make any major announcements then, they'll probably just going to announce 20th anniversary editions of stuff or hold special events in certain games. I could though see them announce the comeback of backwards compatibility since they'd be celebrating their history by making older games available on modern hardware.

I think if anything, they might have some special announcements at The Game Awards. After all, they announced the Series X at The Game Awards 2019.

@LtSarge They did share the announcements between the 2 events back in 2019. X019 did debut games like Everwild, Tell Me Why and Grounded so unless XGS' first 2022 game is Redfall I could see them splitting announcements again.

Playism announced that they would have more for Bright Memory Infinite at their show this week.

@LtSarge I'm thinking that they will have some big game announcements at the VGAs. Rumours were that at year end they would announce the Ubisoft to GPU deal but we'll see if anything happens there. I don't expect any acquisition announcements until they are either finalized if private or about to go to the boards for approval if public. I still believe that we only heard about Zenimax earlier because of the Halo fiasco.

@Grumblevolcano sounds about right but I feel like they’ll give it to the Game Awards.
