Right so I'm not sure about how much you guys know about this series but given that there is a rumored sequel on its way I was thinking it could make sense for us here on the forum to play some of the older games in the series in the not too distant future. Maybe in a month or two.
I have yet to play most of the games in the franchise but I think that cover based shooters are generally cool. That being said it feels like there are not that many new cover based shooters released these days so I guess we kind of need to keep extra attention to those that are still around. And well to my understanding Gears of War represent one of the better ones. Do you have good moemoies from the game? While I did not own an Xbox 360 I think that the first game looked very cool already back then. For some reason it seems as many popole have kind of forgotten about the franchise now. That said I guess its not to late to look up the games again.
I'm not sure what the new Gears of war game will be like.
I bought the Gears Of War Ultimate Edition remake this weekend and replaying the first game reminds me that the tone of the franchise used to be much grittier, bleak, and somber than it is today. I'm not saying the new tone is bad, just different.
Because Gears of war E Day is a prequel, I wonder if it will have more of a dark/pseudo horror vibe like the first gears of war. Especially considering that we'll be playing during the collapse of civilization.

@Yousef- What does this mean? Every game has a pretty well fleshed out campaign for a shooter, you might argue against Judgement, but at the same time that game's multiplayer was not well received by the community.
Gears will always have a multiplayer heritage. The original was the most played game on Xbox live before Halo 3 came out, and then the inclusion of Horde later on cemented online play. But I don't think a great campaign and multiplayer features are mutually exclusive.
@Tasuki I'm not convinced Cliffy consulting would inherently make a new game spectacular. He left on a high note, which is the best thing he could've done for his legacy. Soooo often in this life we see some sort of veteran return to the thing they're famous for and it's underwhelming you know?

@LeanerFasterStronger didn’t mean anything by it. My last gears was 3, so I’m not as in touch with the franchise, I’m only aware of the vague sentiment shooters have these days against maintaining single player content. Although I should probably apologize regardless as I should’ve probably rephrased my comment to “maintain single player”.

It needs to go back to being dark and gritty with raunchy dialogue again, thats why i like the original (not the remaster) so much, and gears of war 2. gears of war 3 overall i'd objectively say is the best, but that was the beginning of the series changing. since this is a prequel, now would be the perfect time, and then they could do whatever they want if theres a gears of war 6, 7, etc, but its only right for them to go back to its roots with the prequel.
all that said, my opinion doesnt matter in the end, and i highly doubt E-Day is gonna be like anything that ive said; all i ultimately want is for the multiplayer and campaign(with 4 player co-op hopefully)to be relevant again
I hated 5 and particularly the moody and depressing Kait, so anything like the first games would be fantastic. They are some of the best games I have played because of the gameplay, monsters, atmosphere and characters. The prequel is a great opportunity to reboot the good vibes of the first games.
It needs to embrace the bromance. There’s nothing wrong with having a group of masculine men shooting and kicking the ***** out of the bad guys, contrary to what modern progressives would have you think.
The original trilogy is one of my favourite stories in gaming, I’m not expecting anything close to that but a return to what made those games great is the way forward I think. A big part of that is the bromance fun characters.
I agree ain’t nothing wrong with good ol bromance.

Right so what do you guys think about the announcement of Gears of War E-day? Iam not sure what to think tbh. I mean I think its cool that the title have been announced but Iam not sure that to expect from it. Iam maybe like most interested to know like how the Coalition is approaching the project with the legacy of the franchise in mind. Things like what tech and game engine the studio will be using for the project. Do you guys have any guesses with regards to the game
engine for the game?
Hm I also like wonder how it is to work on the new Gears game again not least given the legacy of the franchise in mind. It must feel very special to say the least to be part of the group. Not least also considering the work they have done to promote mental health. Also guess they might collaborate with maybe a number of studios on the project hehe.
I mean its very motivating to know that at least one major developer cares about the Mental health of thier players/fans. To me its means a lot in some strange and, well very cool way.
I think Gears, which I’m hoping will be present in E-Day, needs to go back to being what was originally great about it: arcade-y and being a bombastic action game.
Now again I guess the question is what game engine the company will use . But yeah I assume its Unreal as I guess that is the game engine that have been used for the previous games in the franchise.
