As predicted not been able to get to South of Midnight this month, not sure next month will be any better with work deadlines and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33! (+ Blue Prince) so I won't vote. But i'll see what I can do.

I'll think about it. But I'll be pretty deep in expedition 33 for a while. I'll see if I can vote on a smaller 5hr game.

Finished up on South Of Midnight and I did like the game overall. It was very well made and ran flawlessly on the XBX. No frame rate dips. No glitchy cutscenes. No gamebreaking bugs.

The graphics is stunning alongside with the stop-motion animation, saturated color palette, atmospheric lighting and fog, excellent character design and voice work. The soundtrack is top-tier. Moody music then goes into folk singing on the subject matter in chapters. Brilliant. Will be surprised come Game Awards, this game isn't nominated for Best Soundtrack. Ambient sound effects in chapters are well done. I do like the main protagonist Hazel Flood and other side characters such as Roux and Shakin Bones.

The platforming to traverse within chapters are decent, but the combat sections in small arenas are repetitive. Just doesn't change, even with all the skills you get, and throws the same enemies at Hazel. The boss fights fare much better, apart from the last one. Considering Compulsion Games is a small dev studio, I'll give leeway.

There's no new game plus or any good reason to replay it again, apart if you're an achievement hunter and can select individual chapters to get the collectibles that you missed.

I'm going to be playing Oblivion anyway so might as well vote for that lol

I agree with most others here, South of Midnight was really fun. Was the gameplay exceptional? Not really, no. But the presentation is an absolute delight. The art style is sensational, and all the large creatures throughout the game are animated wonderfully. The soundtrack was definitely the highlight for me though. I've always loved that really classic southern sound, and this delivered on that so much better than I could have hoped. The story was really solid, and the writing throughout was definitely above average. The one complaint I had there was the ending. It just felt like a very strange note to end on. But overall, really enjoyed it and glad I gave it a try. Review scores are dumb, but 7.5/10 because numbers make my brain happy.

Just finished South of Midnight as well. Fantastic game brimming with so much creativity. The combat wasn't that engaging, but the story and platforming were absolutely sublime. This is the type of game I want to see more of. I can't imagine this game being made if it weren't for Game Pass as you rarely see studios experiment these days. Hopefully this continues on Xbox as I'd love to see more games like this.

How long to beat pegs Oblivion at 11 hours for the main story but is it pushing it in regards to shorter games in reality, it's clearly many dozens of hours? 🤔

Thoughts?

@AgentCooper You can definitely main line the story in about that time. I did mostly main path speed run a few years ago. But that isn't really how most people play these games. However it is many dozens or hundreds of hours for most people. It's a bit like saying Breath of the Wild can be finished in less than an hour, it can, but most people will be 100+ hours.

@themightyant Yeah that's my thoughts too. If everyone is playing it regardless do we allow it? Be nice to see suggestions for shorter titles though, in keeping with the spirit of things. Thanks for your input friend 👍

@AgentCooper I just did a once over on the GP list, and I'll toss a vote out for the following. I'm playing clair obscur at the moment so I don't have a bunch of a time for other longer games. These are short enough to complete in a few days.

Mullet Madjack

Jusant

@HarmanSmith I want to say it came out last month to GP. I want to say it was in the voting for this month's Game Club game but I could be wrong.

@AgentCooper I said I wasn't going to vote, but Mullet Madjack is apparently just 3 - 3.5 hours to finish the story and 8+ hours for a completionist. It also got a very healthy 88 on Metacritic so I'll vote for that. I should be able to fit that in at least!

Separately I can thoroughly recommend Jusant. I've already played it, so won't vote for it, but I thought it was brilliant. Well recommended.

@themightyant Right you are mate 👍 thanks.

Agreed on Jusant, such a stunning game, really enjoyed it. We need more meditative games outside of walking sims.
