Topic: Is it possible for anyone to bring back the original Xbox Live service

I was thinking the other day, would it be possible for someone to bring back the original Xbox Live service. Like what if someone bought the rights and code for it from Microsoft, if they still have it, and brought it back with their own servers. Is this even possible? What if the code is gone? Could someone theoretically make a new code and bring it back? Seriously, I really want to know.

There are modders that did. At this point it's just so niche that you're better off relying off modders, local events, or stuff like The Master Chief collection.

I mean to play on Xbox Live again. Not LAN tunneling.

Then there's not much viability. Sad but true.

I have been tempted many times to add an Xbox to my retro collection but honestly I can't think of a reason why.  Most third party games that I wanted to play I got on the PS2 or Gamecube like GTA or Soul Caliber II and I can't think of a single exclusive that I would enjoy.  Not a big Halo or Fable fan.  IDK maybe one of these days something will strike me as to why I want to add this system to my collection.

@Tasuki,

you do know that the 360 does have software emulation for the original xbox games. i think you can still purchase xbox original games via the 360 store, I'm not 100% sure tho.

I have the S model of the 360 and I can confirm that you can both use disks and buy original Xbox games on the Xbox Games Store just like any 360 or Arcade game, at least on that one. I can't speak for the E model, but I'm assuming it's no different.

I have always herd that the emulation (I guess you would call it that) for Xbox games on the Xbox 360 is not that great.  Some games have graphic or audio glitches while others wont play at all.  Not sure if that changed with the slim model (which I have a Star Wars edition one) or not but honestly if I wanted an Xbox they are fairly cheap so its not really a big deal.  Its more or less do I want to start another collection lol.  Especially when I am still trying to finish off my Dreamcast and N64 collection.

That hasn't changed. It's not that bad, but I remember a Halo 2 playthrough being slightly marred by some annoying graphical issues on one level. Overall, not much worse than 3DS backwards compatibility.

Well I don't know about that.  I have played dozens of DS games on the 3DS and never had a problem.  Xbox games yeah not so much.  I remember GTA SA having some graphic issues, and True Crimes Streets of LA kept freezing on me along with a few other games having problems.

Xbox games on the 360 are definitely worse, but I've seen some discoloration on some of my DS games. Nothing major, but one would expect that what was black on their DS wasn't dark brown and what-not. Especially if it's only some of the black, and the area around the text isn't cohesive with the background. Nothing major, but definitely strange.

Ah ok I probably didn't notice too much cause I didn't play much on the DS cause during that gen I didn't have too much money to spend on gaming.  Only now I am playing some of the great DS  games.
