Topic: Do you play one or multiple game(s) at a time?

So lately I've been finding myself constantly switching between games instead of focusing on finishing one before moving on to the next one. I used to always do it like that, but now that I don't have much time for gaming and I still need variety, I've come to naturally play like this instead. For example, I've been playing a bit of Resident Evil and Silent Hill, then moved on to Trails of Cold Steel IV, then Assassin's Creed Odyssey, Final Fantasy 7, Mafia, L.A. Noire and now Fallout 3, all in the span of a month, lol. The only issue by doing this is that I have to remember how to play each game and all of these ones are rather different from each other. But I think the advantage of constantly playing something different and not being locked to one game greatly outweighs this issue.

I'm guessing since a lot of people are using Game Pass now that maybe you are also in the same boat as me because you have tons of games at your disposal, so you're probably switching between a lot as well. Does this sound accurate to any of you?

Yeah, I can relate. It is more like, too many games I want to play, and not enough time. And I play different games with different people (for example, we have group where we still play Mass Effect 3 multiplayer regularly, and then I play Borderlands 3 with couple of friends).

My job is interfering with my hobby..

@Justifier Exactly. There are so many games I want to play as well but I can't spend that much time on going through all of them so I basically sample each of them instead. Which I think is fine because gaming is supposed to be fun and if a game no longer interests you then you should be able to move on to something else that does. It doesn't mean that you'll never play that game again, just not right now. I mean, the fact that I picked up Fallout 3 almost five years after I last played it speaks volumes in that regard, lol.

@LtSarge I think I'm in the same boat as you. I do tend to focus primarily on one title but I am also dipping into others at the same time. I'm currently playing Dark Souls Remastered as the main game, FH4, Tetris, Castlevania Lords of Shadow and I've just downloaded Control and a few others from GP that I'll start soon too.
Also as @Justifier said, work getting in the way of gaming.

But I try to prioritise games that I have bought. I don't feel so bad if I don't finish game pass game.

With the speed of the series x and the vastness of Gamepass I find that i am really enjoying having multiple games on the go. When i jump on i just look at my games and play whatever I'm in the mood for. I found that some nights I'll play 2-3 different games in one session even. If it wasn't for the speed of the console i think I'd have a different take on this. Literally press the glowy button, go home and jump into the next game.

Now I am trying to finish what I have installed before adding more to my list but once on there it's part of my shuffle.

I only ever play one game at a time. I find it impossible to play more than 1 game as I only have two hands for a single controller and can't control two separate games at once

However, I may have multiple games in various states of completion. I have played an hour or two of about 3-4 games other since getting my Series X and AC:Valhalla but Valhalla has been the main focus for me. Now that I have completely finished the game and all regions, I have a few days before Cyberpunk - which I expect to take over as my main game with the others as more 'distractions' - things to do for a break for an hour or two.

Sometimes, if there isn't a 'main' game - like there has been the last month with Valhalla, I often have 4-5 games that I switch between - depending on mood and what I feel like playing. Even when I do have a Main game, I don't always just play that and nothing else until its 'finished'. Finished to me doesn't mean every achievement collected - it means until I have 'finished' with the game so even if the campaign isn't grabbing me, I will consider it 'finished' before the end of the story.

A pessimist is just an optimist with experience!

Why can't life be like gaming? Why can't I restart from an earlier checkpoint??

Feel free to add me but please send a message so I know where you know me from...

I usually have 2 games going at any given time (one on Switch, the other PS4).

Currently that's Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition on Switch (absolutely fantastic) & Dead or Alive 5: Last Round on PS4.

Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)

@LtSarge I think I've said before but I normally play no more than 3 games (maybe a 4th ongoing puzzle game as well) at a time and as of a few weeks ago (as it's never come up before), I try to make sure they are different types of game. The reason is because I started playing Gears of War Judgement and then started playing Splinter Cell Double Agent. The actions were similar between the two games but the controls were obviously different which made it confusing, so I finished splinter cell and then went back to gears after!

I do know what you mean though about leaving games even longer and forgetting how to play. There's definitely some half finished games from the last few years that I'll either have to re learn to continue them or just start them again!

See ya!

LtSarge

@ralphdibny I actually really don't like starting games over from the beginning if it's been too long since I played them. The reason being that I become quickly too uninterested if I just do the same things I've already done before since I recognise most of it. Then it leads to me just dropping the game again since it takes too long to get to the new part. The best example of this for me is Zelda: A Link to the Past. I kept restarting it over and over because when I got to the Dark world I had no idea what to do and after a couple of years, I had forgotten everything about the game. I must have restarted it 5-6 times throughout many years and at one point I decided to just resume where I left off and finally I finished the game. Ever since then I just do the same thing with all my games. Take Fallout 3 as an example, I haven't played it for almost 5 years but instead of restarting it I decided to just continue where I left off since I had already invested 50 hours into this game.

So at least in my case, restarting games after a long period of hiatus from them is just not an option for me, lol. It sucks though when you finish a game and you don't remember half of it since it's been too long in between each playthrough, but whatever. At least I don't have to spend another 50 hours, you know?

@LtSarge yeah for sure! It's really a discretionary thing. I wouldn't do it for every game by a long stretch. For example, legacy games that are stuck in 50% or more complete limbo for me include Pokémon Let's Go Pikachu and Dragonball FighterZ which I won't start again, I also won't restart RDR2 and soul calibur 6 if I ever get around to playing them again(I've only done the opening of them really). I'd probably start starlink again though as I've only done one world and I plan to play it with my partner. It really depends! I've been playing paper Mario sticker Star for like 5 years 🤦🏻‍♂️, I've just got to get that finished at some point!

CRANIAL

Usually play up 5 different games. I still have about 20% of games I bought or got from game pass I haven't even touched once. Many others i tried once and didn't bother getting back too.
Trial games should get the most attn. but I have still over 100Gbs left and no real need to play them.

Play multiple games at once, can never seem to focus just on the one no matter how badly I would love to complete it!

Depend on my mood.
Sometimes only play 1 machine, sometime multiple machines.

I do like to juggle a main game (usually on Nintendo Switch), a gamepass game and a fighting game.

Multiple always. One might catch my attention for awhile, but I always then wander back to multiple titles. That's why QR was so important to me in my Series X purchase. It's lovely when it works.

I've been away from Xbox for a couple of years and have just come back after picking up a Series S, so I'm trying to play everything that I've missed out on at once lol.

Multiple, but I think it's a bad habit. I think it leads to being scatterbrained and having more difficulty getting immersed.

Once I round up what I'm working on, I'd like to transition to one, maybe 2 games at a time max.
