Talking Point: Xbox's Final Games With Gold Titles Were Announced Three Years Ago

Can you believe it's been three years since the end of Xbox Games with Gold? Xbox announced back in late July of 2023 that they'd be replacing the Xbox Live Gold service with Xbox Game Pass Core (which eventually ended up becoming Xbox Game Pass Essential), providing access to a selection of XGP titles rather than the handful of titles you could claim for "free" with your membership as part of GwG.

In truth, Games With Gold had been coming in for some criticism during its final few years, with the list of 17 GwG titles in 2023 getting an "F" rating in our poll at the time.

Here's a closer look at how those final few titles went down with the Pure Xbox community:

How Would You Grade Xbox Games With Gold In 2023? (191 votes)

  1. A6%
  2. B5%
  3. C15%
  4. D22%
  5. E17%
  6. F36%

Nevertheless, Xbox Games With Gold went through various periods of extreme popularity throughout its 10-year duration, and we were treated to some incredible games that we could claim for "free" along the way - Halo 3, Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, Gears of War 2, Fable Anniversary, Tomb Raider and Forza Horizon to name just a few.

With that in mind, how do you feel about this service three years on? Do you wish Xbox could bring it back in some form, or do you actually prefer what you get with Xbox Game Pass Essential these days and its library of 60+ playable games?
