Xbox 360 Red Ring of Death?

I don't know if my xbox is out of warranty. I don't remember when I bought it. I don't have the receipt either. The back of the xbox says 2007-07-01. I'm guessing that is when it was made.

I have the three lights red ring of death. So three year warranty. Also, Can I just give it to be repaired by some store like gamestop, best buy, etc.? I've been getting a lot of people telling me that. Microsoft takes 2 months to repair the Xbox 360. Ughh. I don't know what to do. Help.

Suggestion:

Microsoft provides a 3 year warranty on the Red Ring of Death (not a lifetime).

If this is the first time you're sending in this Xbox 360, and you have never before registered it with Microsoft either, there may be a way to get the repairs done.

*****But…you will have to lie. If you don't want to lie, stop reading here, if you want your Xbox 360 fixed, read on.*****

Step 1. Call 1-800-4-MY-XBOX and tell the service representative that you have the red ring of death.

Step 2. They will ask for you to try some basic methods in an attempt to repair the Xbox 360 (they will not work) and then they will request your serial number, date of purchase, etc.

Step 3. Here is where you lie – Now…you have to have some tact when doing this or you will be discovered. Take note of the make/model of your Xbox 360. If it has HDMI or is an Elite (a more recent console) tell them that you purchased a month or two ago to maximize your warranty time. If it does not have HDMI and is one of the much older models, you will need to tell them you purchased at least two years ago (which you may as well have but I don't know even your general time or purchase since it was not provided) so that you still get the some warranty coverage but at the same time…don't get caught lying.

Step 4. If they say yes, then this step says "Enjoy your Xbox in a month or two!"
If they say no, then this step says "You're f*cked!"

There you have it…how to get your Xbox repaired. You must think I'm a horrible person with no morals or sense of righteousness.

I am ;-)
