Xbox 360: How Can I Prevent the Red Ring of Death?

Okay, I do NOT have the RROD. I am just asking because I am afraid I will get it. I do NOT want the Slim because I need to start saving money (I might get Pro at D&B). Anyways, any hints on preventing the RROD?

Suggestion:

what i do is get a stack of 9 books (not huge Guinness world record books) and put my 360 on it so both sides can breathe and i had my 360 since mid 2007 and haven't got the red rings
