Suggestion:
Before paying for anything.Make sure it hasn't been knocked so that there are no loose leads,check that each lead is connected fully.Clean round all vents with a duster or cloth or even hoover the vents out.Sometimes either of these can cause this but is a simple thing to fix.Hope it is one of these and nothing to bad.

I contacted a company a year or so back for a price, they quoted me about 60 GBP.
Private individuals should do this for much less, around 20GBP is pretty realistic considering parts and labour time.
I'd suggest you look on youtube for videos on how to fix it yourself, there are plenty of sites with sections for this including videos with step by step demonstrations. You can look on Ebay for the tool kits and parts to fix the xbox.
Treat it like you would when opening up your PC, watch for static and so on, if you get stuck ask again and include pics.

if you get the three flashing red lights xbox will fix the problem for free
just so long as it always registers this problem so make sure every time you turn
on your xbox u get the three flashing red lights so when they get it they get the same problem
cause if you send it in and they see that it works there is a 99 dollar fee to replace small parts or
just to dust it out
but beware M$ will not send you back your original xbox they will give you a re-certified one
with a one month xbox live card for your troubles so make sure thats what you would like to do
I will tell you ways to prevent it in the future after playing the xbox put a damp cloth over the top of it,make sure it is away from the wall,don't put stuff on top of it and make sure you haven't bumped it
I have no idea why but my friend buys them and I'm pretty sure he has a reason too, so if you can't fix it yourself, you should sell them to people like him who buy them and at least make something out of it.
aaron your mate buys them because he most likely will open them without voiding the warrentry do the oven trick then sell it to a games shop trippling his money for 10 mins work
