Half Red Ring of Death on Xbox 360?

I have half the ring of death on my xbox, I did some research on it and its apparently because its over heating but the room it is in doesnt even have a heater and its not in an enclosed space. I turn it on and after about ten minutes it gets really loud and gets the half ring…..I was wondering even though it has a half ring can I still do the towel trick?

Suggestion:

If your xbox still has red rings after disconnecting and reconnecting all cables, DO NOT open it/tamper with it.
Microsoft WILL fix it even if xbox is out of warranty – this is because they know it is a manufacturing fault. It means sending your xbox away but it gets fixed and gets another years warranty.
