Suggestion:
Alright,
If your connection is WIRED, i.e., using cables connected to your modem (the device that allows you to access the internet) then make sure that the Ethernet cables are connected from your modem or router(a device that allows you to have multiple connections running from one source, wired or wireless.) to your xbox. If that has been done, go to the dash board, then system settings, then network, then choose "Test Connection to Xbox Live". It should sign you out and begin tests, if it fails at step 1, the problem is with your cables, if it fails at step 2, then its a problem with your modem, if at step 3 it fails it has to do with your connection to the internet and if it craps out at step 4, your xbox cannot access xbox live correctly. Now, with DNS errors you should contact your ISP (Internet Service Provider) and ask them about their policies on DNS servers. Now, there should be 2 options in the network configurations screen, saying 'Manual' and 'Automatic'. Your best bet is switching it to 'automatic' so that you will not need to enter any info in. If that doesnt work then you should contact your ISP and troubleshoot with them.
WIRELESS CONNECTION
This is completely different then the above answer, if you have an older xbox (not the xbox 360 slim) then you WILL need a wireless adapter (they run around 40-60 bucks used and 100 new) to connect your xbox to your wireless network. Also, if you set up a WEP key or any other security for your network make sure to have those at hand when you do this, because it will ask you to enter your WEP key during the process. Hope this helps
