Problem with Xbox Live Set Up?

About a month ago I got an xbox for my birthday and I'm just not getting my gamertag and whatever. It says I'm supposed to get a month of gold membership free, but when I get to the end of my account set up, it gives me an error. What should I do?

Suggestion:

Set up the account on xbox.com then recover gamertag

take it bak and get a new card the same thing happened to me
