Nat Problem on Xbox Live?

Hey, My Friend and I are having trouble trying to connect to each other on live. So when I set up a lobby in custom game on Halo Reach, i will set the network as friends and Live members can join but when he joins it comes up saying NAT error, check your network status and ****. Oh and this is from different houses and different networks. so could somebody tell me plz on how to fix this, It would be much appriciated. HELP!?!?!?!?!?!?!
