Important Question About My Xbox Live Turtle Beach Headset?

I bought a new headset and its a turtle beach xlc, i have it set up so i hear my tv sound in the headset, and my friends voice in the headset as well. It works perfectly fine in all cases, but when i try to watch a video, i cant hear my friends talk ive tried almost everything. Is there anyway i can be able to hear my friends from the xbox live party?

The headset has a feature that mutes friends and music when watching a video or a cut scene in a game.
