Help Setting Up Xbox Live Without a Actually Microsoft Adapter?

ok so I went to the store and bought a linksys dual-band wireless-n usb adapter thinking it would work on my my xbox because on the back it says it can hook to games. So I opened the box and saw that you needed to put a cd in. its didnt work so i tried just to use it without the cd and nothing happened please help.

Suggestion:

The only thing that plugs into a USB port and will work is the Xbox wireless adapter. The only other thing you can use is a wireless range extender which can operate in bridge mode. This is not something the average end user will figure out how to do.

If you want good performance, I strongly recommend powerline or MoCa.
