should i ask the apartment people if they know it or something? or is there a way i can figure it out without actually looking at the router? im just lost
Suggestion:
Some routers have a sticker printed at the bottom and is actually the password (WEP key).
If no sticker, then its about time you ask to someone for the password.

If the wifi is free try using a blank password. Otherwise just call the landlord and ask for the default password.
