Hd Capture Card for Xbox 360 Help?

first of all, i would like to know, basically, how a capture card works. secondly i want to know what i have to search for when i am looking for a capture card for my xbox 360. all i would like to do i create videos from my xbox 360 to youtube. any help with this will be much appreciated.
