I also downloaded the SyFy app yesterday but was unable to spend too much time playing around with it. I noticed it had some trailers and short clips of tv shows. There seemed to be another section which allowed one to watch a small selection of the SyFy television shows but I wasn't able to investigate much further.

My 10 year old will be thrilled. He's been pestering me to purchase it for our desktop. Unfortunately, it's too archaic to even run Minecraft. Maybe it's time to put an xbox on his Xmas list...

He just needs to relocate the TV. Stick it to the window looking thing in the center of the picture and then throw out all that other useless stuff (desk, chairs, plant, uhhh..humidifier, ashtray, purse? and that darned refrigerator) and he's all set. Oh and get a surge protector for chrissakes.

Based on the relatively low cost of the components required to make the Kinect (see previous Kinectaku story) and what I believe to be readily available materials, I can only ascertain that it's a demand issue and not a manufacturing issue. ymmv

ninal12, I'm glad you mentioned that. I've heard there is a "workout mode" in this game as well but didn't see any mention of it in the review. I may have just missed it though. Did you get a chance to use it, Will?

This kinda illustrates what type of issues might manifest when "scanning" a real-life item into a Kinect game as a 3d item. For example, a skateboard. You would have to allow the Kinect to take multiple images of the skateboard from several different angles. Then the software (probably the game software?) would have to combine those images so that the 3d item could be created in the game itself. It wouldn't be as simple as holding up the skateboard, taking one scan, and BAM! your skateboard is in the game. The alternative, and possibly simpler way, would be to scan the top of the skateboard, and then superimpose the image over a pregenerated in-game skateboard model.

Rumor has it that "other" people are also interested in the Kinect tech as well, including the Dept. of Defense, etc. How quickly could costs be recouped with the addition of government contracts, technology leases, etc.

You have to start somewhere. Take the wheel for example. When it was invented, who knew it would be used in thousand hp cars to propel you around race tracks at ridiculous speeds.
Ya know, there are lots of "armchair quarterbacks" out there with regards to watching sports on tv, irl, etc. How about making a referee simulator where the the player takes on the roll of an (American) football referee. They can be on the field, avoiding the players, and calling the fouls, touchdowns, out of bounds, etc with all of the normal gestures a referee would make. It's probably not a $50 game, but it could definately be an XBLA kind of thing. How about a martial arts instruction game? Geeze...the possibilities...
