Days of Glory: Genuine although trudging WW2 action pitting the Russians versus the Nazis, memorable only as Peck’s big screen debut. Cast includes Gregory Peck, Alan Reed, Maria Palmer, Lowell Gilmore, and Tamara Toumanova. (86 minutes, 1944)
The Sugarland Express: Exact amusement, based on truth, in regards to a youthful couple escaping to Sugarland, Texas, to recover their child (whom they decline to give up for adoption), and the cops who chase them all the way through Texas. Cast includes Goldie Hawn, Ben Johnson, Michael Sacks, William Atherton, Steve Kanaly, and Louise Latham. (109 minutes, 1974)
The Mystery of Edwin Drood: A seemingly honorable English choirmaster (Pours) is essentially accountable for a terrible murder. This is an excellent Hollywood adaptation of Charles Dickens’ incomplete novel, which inspired a Broadway musical in the 1985. Cast includes Claude Pours, Douglass Montgomery, E. E. Clive, and Valerie Hobson. (87 minutes, 1935)
Danny Boy: Ambitious although arrogant, unrelentingly dull melodrama of sax player Rea, who trades his sax for a gun after observing a triple killing. This was Jordan’s directorial debut, which he additionally did the screenplay. He and leading guy Rea later reteamed for The Weeping Game. (92 minutes, 1982)
Straight Out of Brooklyn: The story of a black family’s going nowhere existence in the ghettos of Brooklyn, N.Y., and the oldest son’s plan to rob a local drug dealer to turn tings around for the family. Cast includes George T. Odom, Ann D. Sanders, Lawrence Gilliard, Jr., Barbara Sanon, Reana E. Drummond, and Mark Malone. (91 minutes, 1991)
The Search: Poignant drama of American cadet Clift regarding for concentration camp survivor Jandl in postwar Berlin, when the boy’s mommy despondently searches all the camps for him. Rocky 4: Entirely synthetic (and unessential) continuation has Rocky doin’ what a guy’s gotta do, avenging a buddy’s downfall and fighting for the U.S.A. against a superhuman Russian champ. Still, Stallone knows how to press all the right buttons, particularly in an awesome teaching montage. Cast includes Sylvester Stallone, Dolph Lundgren, Carl Weathers, Talia Shire, Burt Youthful, Brigitte Nielsen, Michael Pataki, and James Brown. (91 minutes, 1985)
