Killing mobs.
Grinding is one way to go. Certain enemies drop items that are coveted by other players. Cloth is a useful item that most human-like mobs will drop frequently. They can drop wool, mageweave, linen, and more. These cloths can be a nice source of income if you gather enough. Often times the lower level cloths sell for more than the higher ones. Prices vary on different WoW servers so make sure to notice what sells well on yours. Tradeskills items are also good money makers. The plant monsters on southwest Wintergrasp drop an expensive item. Once you learn what sells well on your realm, the rest is easy.
Doing quests.
Questing will give you steady income all through your journey. Most players know about this. After you are max level, you can focus on daily quests. These should be done every day and pay a good amount of gold. Formulate an efficient route to follow and it will pay off nicely.
Making gold with professions.
Professions are a great way to earn more gold for yourself. You can spend a lot of gold and time maxing out some professions. I recommend that you use skinning with either mining or herbalism to get started. Then you ought to gather herbs or ore and skin every beast on you way to 80. Sell these items to other people and you will do very well on gold. You can switch to another profession once it is affordable. Make sure you can afford to level them up. You can earn money off of these once they are high enough level. You should match a gathering profession with a production one to help attain the materials needed. Now here are some matchups: blacksmithing/mining, tailoring/enchanting, engineering/mining, and more.
