Probably Not Next Month's Games With Gold

We don't often run "debunking" stories here at pX, but we felt like we needed to this time, given the proliferation of the story that is doing the rounds.

It seems that a user over at 4chan has posted an image that claims to be a leak from Xbox.com which shows next month's Games With Gold offerings. The image shows Ryse: Legendary Edition and SlashDash on Xbox One, as well as Catherine and Fallout: New Vegas on Xbox 360.

Of course, the internet being the internet, this is now apparently just assumed to be fact. However, the exact same image was used last month to try to push a similar rumour about July's titles. Not only that, but a closer look shows that the game box images aren't lined up correctly, and the font for some of the dates is entirely wrong. For future reference, fakers, you want Segoe UI.

If that isn't enough, how about the logic of it all? When Ryse hits Games With Gold, we'd be amazed if it was the Legendary Edition for starters. We'd imagine that the bog-standard Ryse will hit, and Microsoft will then discount the season pass to get a few more bucks into the coffers. Plus, SlashDash has been out for less than a week. Do people think that Microsoft are about to slap all the people who bought it in the last seven days directly in the face by giving it away for free already? Come on, now.

For the real information, keep your eyes fixed here and we'll bring it to you just as soon as we can.

Note: We're not saying that Ryse, Catherine and Fallout New Vegas won't turn up in next month's list. Just that the image is a fake. We'd eat our hats if SlashDash went free, though.
