Free-to-play is here to stay

So you're browsing your local retailer's Xbox One and Xbox 360 section and have no idea what new games were released this week. No one seems willing to help and you feel alone and scared. Surely, there must be a way — an easy way — to get the info on the latest releases. Rest your worried head young Spartan, because at pX we got you covered on what's hitting retail stores and the Games Store.

Pinball FX 2 (Xbox One)

Pinball FX 2 finally arrives on Xbox One this week for free no less. The initial download will come with the Sorcerer's Lair table, but players can purchase additional tables ranging from $2.49-$2.99 or $9.99 for table packs. There is still no confirmation on whether Xbox 360 DLC will be transferrable to the Xbox One version, but developer Zen Studios is reportedly working closely with Microsoft on trying to make that happen. The Xbox One edition will boast 1080p visuals and will run at 60fps for those that want their pinball to look their utmost best.

AirMech Arena (XBLA)

The popular free-to-play MOBA is now on Xbox 360 beginning this Wednesday. AirMech is a pretty cool strategy game that not only has you building and commanding units, but also huge and powerful transforming robots — all in good intention to completely destroy your enemy's territory. Ubisoft has said the game will be receiving regular updates with fresh new add-on content to keep players invested.

A fairly ho-hum week on Xbox, but we know there are many of you who love Pinball FX 2. Some of us here at pX have yet to try it on Xbox 360, so let's hope they find the game just as addictive and fun as the rest of us. Will you be diving into this week's releases at all? Does the free-to-play model entice you to give either of these games a try? Let us know.

Well, Pinball FX2 is no longer hitting Xbox One this week, but at least the Guardians of the Galaxy table will still be available to those that own the game on Xbox 360. I'm going to download that to make the wait less painful.

I really can't wait until the X1 has the digital selection of the 360.
I love digital games. In fact, I find myself spending just as much time playing indies, VC/PSN and digital exclusives as I do on full fledged retail releases.

Maybe Xbox could start their own "VC" of sorts. Ya know, maybe start selling original Xbox games on the service or something. That would be pretty cool. And I know I'd have a lot of catching up to do.
