The Latest Xbox One SDK Makes Sunset Overdrive Even Better

More characters and particles on screen
Just like many of you, our anticipation for Insomniac's totally insane action shooter, Sunset Overdrive is at an all-time high. It wowed us when we saw the first trailer in May and its presence during Microsoft's E3 conference cemented it as the must-play Xbox One exclusive when it arrives on October 28th. And now, thanks to the latest Xbox One SDK — the one that allows developers to unlock even more power from the console now that Kinect isn't required — Insomniac Games is making Sunset Overdrive even better.
Speaking with Gamingbolt, Insomniac's John Paquette and Ryan Schneider both explained how the team is utilizing the new software kit to squeeze as much as they can out of Microsoft's latest box:
“For us it’s really more about pushing the number of characters on the screen and particles in the game. If you play the game you will see there are a lot of things that are happening on the screen," explained Schneider. "It really is great to be supported by Xbox. One really cool thing that the platform [Xbox One] enables us to do is seamless transition between single player to multiplayer. All you have to do is hop into the photo booth of the game and boom…you are in multiplayer. We are very grateful to be partners with Microsoft as an Xbox One exclusive."
More insanity on screen at once and seamless multiplayer? That's what Insomniac is focusing on while also keeping the frame rate at a consistence 30fps. As long as the gameplay and performance don't suffer, then we're all for it.
Because the new SDK opens up more GPU power, other developers like Bungie have already confirmed that they're using it to beef up Destiny on Xbox One so it can run at 1080p, just like the PS4 version. Could we finally see the end of Xbox One games shipping at a lower resolution? Will developers patch their games to make them even look or perform better?
We suppose time will tell. While we wait, feel free to leave your thoughts on the matter.
