These Are The Games You'll Miss Out On Without Kinect for Xbox One

Posted by Ken Barnes

It isn't a massive list, so don't worry.

With Microsoft announcing a Kinect-free Xbox One yesterday, we thought we'd run through the list of available Xbox One titles and see exactly which games folks would miss out on, were they to pick up a Kinectless console.

As we ran through the list, it honestly surprised us exactly how few games would be significantly affected.

Out of Luck - Games that you will NOT be able to play without Kinect
Kinect Sports Rivals
Just Dance 2014
Zumba Fitness World Party
Fighter Within
Xbox Fitness

Barely Impeded - Games that provide Kinect functionality (generally voice commands), but that you can play with a standard controller
Angry Birds: Star Wars
Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag
Battlefield 4
Call of Duty: Ghosts
Crimson Dragon
Dead Rising 3
Forza Motorsport 5
Killer Instinct
Madden NFL 25
NBA 2k14
Need for Speed: Rivals
Peggle 2
Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare
Ryse: Son of Rome
Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition
Zoo Tycoon

Also, a few upcoming titles will be affected. Harmonix's upcoming Fantasia: Music Evolved will more than likely require Kinect for play, due to the nature of the game. We're expecting a new Dance Central title to be unveiled at E3 too, and that will obviously require Kinect.

Aside from those though, is there anything on the "unplayable" list that is really going to hurt anyone? We can't see many folks shedding a tear over not being able to play the almost hatefully-bad Fighter Within...

The new bundle is a good move but I LOVE being able to shout commands at the TV... Seriously lazy but worth it for me.

This is a real eye opener for me.

I think it all comes down to price. If I can score a Kinect version of the console for $25 more than the vanilla SKU, I say why not. I'm curious to see whether or not the new SKU will go on sale like the Titanfall bundles were. I mean, even though I'm not interested in Titanfall, it would be hard to justify spending $400 on a basic model knowing they had bundles with Kinect and a game for just $50 more. Have to shop around, see what I can find...
