External Game Storage Coming to Xbox One Soon

Posted by Ken Barnes

About time.

In a thread on Reddit entitled "Xbox One Momentum", Microsoft's Larry Hyrb (Major Nelson) has been jumping in to answer a few queries from users.

It seems that the erstwhile Major has confirmed that Xbox One owners will be able to install games on external devices soon, meaning that the system's 500GB internal drive is no longer a limiter on having stacks of games installed.

In response to the simple question "Any word on external storage?" Hyrb replied "External game storage is coming soon...."

Unfortunately, there's not a lot more to be added other than that, given that the Major obviously can only talk about certain subjects and features before they're officially announced. But this will be a welcome addition when it happens.

That's definitely welcome. I'm curious if that will also allow you to play media from said external device?

@Generik Interestingly enough, that was asked at the same time, and Major Nelson said that he would need to look into it. It seems logical to me that you would be able to, though!

@Generik I really hope so too

Nice feature for those who download alot of games and that, for me I think the 500GB will be plenty for me for awhile. Good that theyre bringing this feature to X1 though
