Kinect 2.0 Snags Best of What's New Award 2013

Posted by Mike Zatorski

Popular Science runs an annual "What's New" segment every year, rewarding the best and brightest new inventions and innovations that make our world better and more efficient.

This year, Kinect 2.0 has crept into the lineup.

Cliff Ransom, Executive editor over at Popular Science stated:

For more than a quarter century, Popular Science has devoted its December issue to the year’s most remarkable innovations. The Best of What’s New Awards is our magazine’s top honor, and the 100 awardees are selected from a pool of thousands, and each winner is handpicked and revolutionary in its own way. Whether they’re poised to change the world or simplify your living room, the Best of What’s New awardees challenge us to see the future in a new light.

Some folks have just plain ruled out ever using Kinect. That's their choice. Looks like they may be missing out in the long run, though...

I have the original Kinect and honestly haven't used it much in the past year or more other than a bit of voice commands in Netflix. But what I'm seeing of the new Kinect has me very excited. The functionality looks so much more impressive this time around. I think many people are rushing to pass on it and they will be slinking back in the future at some point when it really turns out to be a killer app for the living room.
