Titanfall Exclusivity Cleared Up At Last

Posted by Anthony Bacchus

Not coming to PS3 or PS4

The Xbox One has just claimed its first major killer app and it goes by the name of Titanfall. You know the one — the next FPS shooter from Respawn Entertainment has been making waves ever since its first reveal at E3 and at hands-on events at Gamescom this year. In fact, Microsoft is already promoting the game through their Xbox One ads, even though the title won't be released for another four months after the console launch.

The developers initially said the game will be released on Xbox One, Xbox 360 and Windows PC, leaving PlayStation fans wondering if they'll ever be able to experience the hectic, insane combat. Today during an Electronic Art's investor call, CFO Blake Jorgenson confirmed that Titanfall will indeed be skipping Sony's platforms, essentially solidifying the game's exclusivity to Microsoft for "the life of the title."

Quick to comment on Twitter was co-founder of Respawn, Vince Zampella, who reassured gamers that Microsoft has exclusive rights over the first game only, strongly implying that future Titanfall games are in the pipeline and that those upcoming games could make the jump to the PS4.

It is worth mentioning that — similar to what transpired with the Mass Effect Trilogy — it is possible that Titanfall could still eventually come to PS4, not as a standalone release, but maybe as part of a compilation.

Overall though, this is a big plus for Microsoft and its Xbox brand, locking in one of the most talked about next-gen games. Are you happy that Titanfall will remain an Xbox exclusive or were you hoping for that PlayStation announcement?

Very disappointed as I likely won't be able to get an X1 for a while so would've liked to see this on PS4. But, can't say this was completely unexpected, surprising to a degree but MS has deep pockets. Hopefully Destiny doesn't let me down.

I'm happy about this. I'll be picking up both consoles on launch day, but this is a good move for Microsoft.

Huge win for the Xbone and Microsoft in general. If this game had been an actual launch title I think it would dramatically shift sales away from Sony during the holiday season.
