Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue Two

Posted by Dave Letcavage

At least one of us is getting up to gentlemanly things.

A regular feature over at our sister site Nintendo Life, is their roundup of the staff's weekend gaming plans. Having absolutely no shame, we decided that we'd pinch the idea and find out what the Pure Xbox staff will be getting busy with at the end of the week. This isn't just about us telling you what we're playing though, as we want you to tell us what's tickling your gaming fancy!

So without further ado, this is what we're playing this weekend (it shouldn't exactly take a degree in criminology to predict what has filled majority of our gaming schedules).

Ken Barnes

This weekend, I'll be settling in and getting into Grand Theft Auto 5 properly. I've played an hour or two so far and am absolutely loving what I'm seeing, so I'm looking forward to being drawn into the criminal underworld. Also, yet more NHL 14 is on the cards, as my virtual pro has finally made it out of the lower leagues and into the NHL. If only he'd been signed by my beloved Maple Leafs. Oh, well.

This weekend is mostly about GTA. I’ve already logged about 13 hours, and according to my save file, I’m only 24% complete. Tennis and flight school sucked up a nice chunk of that time, and since I’ve only just discovered golfing, it’s not likely I’ll leave the house this weekend. Mario & Luigi: Dream Team was getting a lot of attention before GTA arrived and I don’t plan to snooze on that one for much longer. It’s such a charming little game. If I have any time beyond that I'll probably play a little Bit.Trip Saga on 3DS.

Grand Theft Auto V will be consuming most of my time this weekend, as I'm sure it will be for the rest of the staff as well as our readers. I've only scratched approximately two hours into the game and so far I can say this entry has hooked me more quickly compared to previous entries. Everything feels mechanically better too; the gun combat, driving, and overall feel of the game is greatly polished. When I'm not driving like a maniac or gunning down rival gangs, I'll be spending some quality time with SteamWorld Dig: A Fistful of Dirt on 3DS which looks to be the next eShop hit. Not one to exclude my close friends this weekend, we'll be cracking open some drinks and revelling in some multiplayer mayhem that is Rayman Legends. Yep, it's gonna be a good one.

Mike Zatorski

I will be attempting to complete Grand Theft Auto 5 as the story is so enticing that it makes you want to find out what happens next. It really is a remarkable game. To settle my sports fix - as long as time permits - I’ll be taking my prospect in the CHL and hopefully get him drafted into the NHL finally in NHL 14. I will also be checking out Madden 25 for the first time to see how it fares against previous editions. It will definitely be a busy weekend!

Ben Harding

Setting myself up as an outcast, I shall not be playing GTA V. I'm probably going to be trying to scoop up the last of the Lums in Rayman Legends, play a bit of Zone of the Enders HD and a maybe a little Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask.

Now that we've let you peek into the exhilarating weekend of Pure Xbox staffer, it's time for you to one-up us with your ultimately superior gaming plans. Leave all the juicy details in the comments below.

I forgot to mention that I'll more than likely play a little NHL 14 as well. I'm really no good at it, so I stick to the classic '94 mode to avoid too much embarrassment. It usually makes for a good enough time. :)

Well everything else gaming wise has taken a back seat to GTA V. I am not to far into the story cause everytime I get into a car something distracts me and I have to check it out. Last time it was tennis which I spent about 4 hours playing lol. Next I think I will try my hand at golf.

GTA V, GTA V and GTA V... Seriously, I can't get enough of this game. When I'm not playing it, I'm thinking about it. It's been 10 years since a GTA game has had this effect on me (got Vice City in 2003 and the 80s atmosphere of it really hooked me in) and it's great to have that feeling again. This is the GTA I have been wanting for since then.

But before that I will play the single-player version of Gears of War (classic edition).
